Obituary

Gloria Gayle Weatherford, 63

Gloria Gayle Barnett was born in Eads to Joe and Madeline Barnett June 21, 1936. She attended Eads Schools and graduated from Eads High School in 1954. Gloria=s love of the ocean and marine life took her to Fort Meyers, Florida, in 1979, where she lived until she lost her battle with cancer on April 17, 1999.

Gloria had a great love for animals and respected their preservation. She was known to stop in a tour lane highway just to help a turtle across the traffic so it would not be killed. Gloria enjoyed her profession of interior design and her family. She enjoyed raising her two oldest children and was especially proud of her youngest son=s accomplishments in swimming.

Gloria herself enjoyed swimming and worked as a lifeguard as a young girl in Eads. She enjoyed summer trips home to Colorado to visit her sister and other family. Gloria especially enjoyed walks on the beach with her husband early in the morning.

Gloria Weatherford is survived by her husband Richard of Fort Meyers; two sons, Neil (Connie) Richardson of Eads, and Derek (Chantel) Weatherford of New York City, New York; one daughter, Dena (Rick) Sutor of Leigh High Acres, Florida; four grandchildren, including Wesley and Jamie Richardson of Eads; one brother, Bill (Lucy) Barnett of Eads and one sister, Kay (Jim) Grebenc of Pueblo, as well as nieces and nephews and other family. Gloria will be missed by her family, and the following poem was written days before her death by her granddaughter.

AMy Gran@

by Jamie Richardson

Every year she bathed us in love, just like a beautiful white dove.

Every year she would visit in June, and we would sit and look at a full moon.

Then one day she called and was sad, the news she told us was very bad.

We hoped the news was not true, but of course, it was and we kept saying the I love you=s.

One of these days she won=t suffer, and we know we will get tuffer.

The day will come and we will be sad, but I will dry and so will by dad.

The person in the poem is really brave, I=ll see her for the last time and give her a good-bye wave.

One day we will feel the guilt and blame, but the day she is gone, the stars will spell out her name.

Memorial services were held on May 29, 1999, at the Eads Cemetery with Pastor Steve Puls officiating. Jamie Richardson played a special tribute AMy Heart Will Go On@ on the keyboard. Following the service, Gloria=s family and friends gathered at the home of Neil and Connie Richardson for a time of fellowship and a meal.

Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
