Audrey Irene Johnson, 84

Audrey Irene Elston was born to Sara Elizabeth Leslie and John Lewis Elston March 19, 1915, in Laverne, Oklahoma. She was one of 13 children, seven of whom preceded her in death.

She married Stanley Maxwell AMack@ Johnson April 17, 1932. To this union were born three sons, Luther Maxwell, Olin Dale and Everett Wayne, and three daughters, Loudilla Maxine, Loretta Irene and Velma Kay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack, and two sons, Luther and Olin.

Mack and Audrey moved their family to a farm north of Wild Horse in 1948. They were divorced in 1965, and Audrey then moved to New Mexico, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Audrey moved to Lamar, where she lived for 15 years. She became a member of the First Christian Church in May, 1983.

She moved to Cheyenne Manor Nursing Home in Cheyenne Wells June 10, 1999, where she passed away July 15, 1999.

Audrey Irene Johnson is survived by four children, eight grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Velma Brown, Ella Schibbelhut and Bernita Horn; and two brothers, Leonard Elston and Lloyd Elston. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Audrey Irene Johnson were held Monday, July 19, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Kit Carson with Rev. Michael Ingersol officiating. Marilyn Bullock served as pianist and Darrel Schallenberger and Kim Schallenberger served as vocalists, singing AThe Hymn of Promise,@ and AHow Great Thou Art.@ Serving as casket bearers were Wayne Johnson, Olin Johnson Jr., Richard Johnson, Leonard Robinson, Steve Erker and Mike Kuhlman. Honorary casket bearers were Kaylene Robinson, Sheri Stoney, Steve Stoney, Cindy Erker, Anita Kuhlman, Shirley Johnson, Sammie Johnson, Carol Johnson and Christie Johnson. Final committal services were held at the Kit Carson Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
