Wild Horse Roundup

Bonnie Drake of Colorado Springs
came Friday morning to spend a couple of days. She is the daughter of John
and Ruth Sinnes and I guess that makes her Marty’s cousin. They really
enjoy each other’s company and we do too. Marty took her for a ride around
her ranch watching for wildlife. Bonnie likes to take pictures and also
looking through our albums of old pictures. She enjoyed seeing pictures of
her mom when she was a little girl.
When I went to the post office this
morning, Susie showed me some pictures of that new granddaughter, Taylor,
who is now 4 weeks old. She gave them quite a scare that first week but is
better now. Susie’s daughter, Christine, went along with them last week to
see the new baby.
Bill Skinner and brother, Scotty,
got back from their trip. They had a nice time as they went to California
and up the coast highway through the redwood forest and to Oregon. Lee and
I took that trip on the way to Seattle. We went all the way from San
Diego. That was many years ago.
We owe a big thank you to the
Methodist ladies of Kit Carson for the Thanksgiving Day sack of goodies.
Somebody was busy baking cookies plus candy, fruit and other things.
Thanks again.
We got a letter from Betty Wombles
Glover of Lamar. What a nice surprise when I opened it and saw the
pictures in it. They were taken of Wild Horse Old Timers Day in 1950. I’m
sure people would be surprised to see the crowd lined up for the barbecue.
There were hundreds of them. We would have a nice parade, calf roping and
such. The Hall had lots of antiques to look at; there was a baseball game
and then a dance that night. One picture was of some ladies in old time
dresses. Eva Kregel’s mom is one. We quit Wild Horse Day in the early
sixties as it got down to three or four of us doing the work. Pleasant
memories… thanks Betty!
Marty and Bonnie talked to LeeAnn
and girls Saturday morning on the computer. Bonnie really enjoyed seeing
the girls’ big smile and their happy laugh. Kirsti is going to Portugal in
February for student teaching and will be gone for two and a half months.
If what I saw in the refrigerator
means what I think it does, we will be staying home for Thanksgiving. I
saw a big turkey in there and Marty takes after her mom when it comes to
knowing how to cook.
The weather for the coming week
doesn’t sound the best but maybe it won’t be too big a storm I hope. I’m
not the cold weather guy I used to be.
Happy Thanksgiving!
