Troy Eid Announces Candidacy for CU Regent at Large

March 3, 2006
Troy Eid officially announced his
campaign for University of Colorado Regent-At-Large. U.S. Senator Wayne
Allard is serving as the Honorary Chair for Eid's statewide campaign for
the open seat on the nine-member Board of Regents.
"Interim CU President Hank Brown is
doing a great job. But President Brown can't do it alone. The $2 billion
CU System also needs strong leadership at the Board of Regents' level to
realize CU's potential. We have a choice. We can continue to watch as
parents and students become more alienated from the University of
Colorado. Or, we can take a stand. No more Ward Churchills! – It's time to
restore public confidence in the University of Colorado," said Troy Eid,
candidate for CU Regent at Large.
Since 2003, Eid has practiced
land-use and environmental law for the Denver office of Greenberg Traurig
LLP and was recently named one of America's "Best Attorneys for Business"
in Environmental Law for 2005-06 by Chambers USA.
Prior to 2003, Eid served for five
years in the Owens administration. As Chief Legal Counsel and later Chief
Administrative Officer on Governor Bill Owens' cabinet, Eid helped reform
Colorado's $14 billion state government, including technology, real
estate, finance, business services, and the 33,000-employee state
personnel system. Eid was named the Outstanding Government Official of the
Year for the Western United States by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce for reforming Colorado state government.
"Higher education in Colorado
desperately needs the kind of reform that Troy Eid can deliver", said
Former U.S. Representative Bob Schaffer. "His proven experience as
Colorado's chief administrative officer on Governor Owens' cabinet, skill
as an accomplished attorney, and commonsense approach to government
accountability are the kinds of talents that make Troy a powerful force
for effective change at CU," continued Schaffer.
Eid has served on the Board of
Advisors, Natural Resources Law Center, CU School of Law; as a Monfort
Visiting Professor, University of Northern Colorado College of Business,
and as a lecturer at Fort Lewis College. He has raised nearly $100,000 for
minority college scholarships since 2004.
Eid is a graduate of Wheat Ridge
High School, Stanford University and the University of Chicago Law School.
Troy and wife Allison live in Golden with their two children, Alex and
Emily.
