Bethany College art major Amy
Nordquist opens her weeklong senior exhibition of ceramics Wednesday, Dec.
8 in the Mingenback Art Center Gallery. The public is invited to a
reception for the artist Sunday, Dec. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gallery,
with a gallery talk at 2:30 p.m.
According to Nordquist, the
immediacy of clay, with its flexibility and tactility, drew her to
ceramics. Through her studies, she came to focus on form; the structure of
form; and surface texture, color, and design. She also has explored the
psychological connections these design elements create.
Nordquist is from Kit Carson, Colo.
She will graduate this month with a bachelor’s in art, psychology and art
therapy. After graduation, Nordquist will study for six months in St.
Petersburg, Russia, at Charis Bible College. She plans to begin graduate
studies in art therapy in the fall of 2005.
Mingenback Art Center, located on
the corner of Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus in
Lindsborg, Kansas, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Admission is free. Mingenback houses the premier center for art
instruction in the region and a gallery devoted to the work of regional
artists and Bethany College students and alumni. The Bethany College Art
Department recognizes that open and rigorous inquiry is essential to a
liberal arts education. Because art reflects life, art made and displayed
within the Mingenback Art Center may address mature themes.
