Wild Horse Roundup

We hope that everyone had as nice a Thanksgiving as we had. Jim and Billie Lafferty were our guests and helped us get rid of the big dinner Marty cooked and we are still eating on it. I think we finished the pie.

I forgot to mention the plate of goodies that the Methodist Ladies brought by. We really enjoyed it.

Our thoughts are with Bud Buck and family in the loss of his wife. He lives in California now, but is from the Eads area. He and his son come by every fall at fair time to visit.

I had a surprise phone call from an old friend of mine who lives in Limon. It was Gus Vassios whom I haven’t seen for so many years I probably meet him on the street and not know him. We talked about old times like dances at Lost Springs and Wild Horse.

Chuck Keller stopped by Saturday on his way to Denver to a calf roping at an indoor arena. It was a three day event. He will probably need help to carry his winnings. His wife, Pat, is in Kansas rocking a new grandbaby.

Noella Johnson said they had all the family home except Mande who lives close to Kansas City. Ernie Hammer said his sister and family would be their guests for Thanksgiving. Scott Johnson stopped in a few days ago and said they were going to Wray to celebrate the day and I’m sure that includes Polly.

Don McNeely stopped and said they had 20 people for Thanksgiving at their home in Colorado Springs. There were some from Pueblo and Kit Carson, but I didn’t get their names. No hearing aids in. He said they had three turkeys they cooked one in some kind of boiler that I didn’t understand.

Ernie Hammer stopped in a few evenings ago and he had a book with a write up about Lee in it and he wanted her to autograph it. She has been interviewed so much over the years you would think she was famous. Some are: New York Times, Los Angeles Times, a book by Nancy Wood, a book for travelers that said if you want a good visit stop at Lee’s Café in Wild Horse, a fellow that wrote a column in the Denver Post wrote her up. There is more, but that’s enough for now.

Bill Skinner and Candy James went to Denver for Thanksgiving to visit his mother who is in the hospital there and will be for awhile. he said they ate their dinner in a café.

Marty and I cut down some trees today and now they have to be made to fit our stove. It gives me an excuse to get out of my chair to put some in the store to keep us warm without using the gas furnace.

We just talked to Lee Ann and girls and they told about their trip to Frendheim Friday. There were 45 that went in a large city bus to watch a handball tournament of different counties. Norway played Russia and France was there and some countries I didn’t recognize. These were grown ups, not kids. The whole bus load stopped and had pizza. After a two and a half hour ride they got home at 10:30, tired, but happy from having fun. This weekend they had a turkey dinner about like ours.
