Four Kiowa County youth were
recognized at the 2004 Kiowa County 4-H Achievement Banquet, Friday,
November 5. The theme for this years banquet was "Surf’s Up With 4-H". Two
Senior members, ages 14 to 18, and two Junior members, ages 8 to 13,
received awards sponsored by Valley State Bank and presented by Koy
Glover.
The two junior members are Jennifer
Negley and Megan Linder.
Jennifer is a five year member of
the Prairie Queen 4-H Club with projects including: Ceramics, Child
Development, Clothing, Creative Cooks, Decorate Your Duds, Dog, and
Leathercraft. She is the daughter of John and Laura Negley and is looking
forward to increasing her leadership roles.
Megan is a two year member of the
Sheridan Lake Livewires 4-H Club. Her projects have included: Crocheting,
Woodworking, and Clothing. Megan is the daughter of Tim and Debbie Harris.
Both of these young ladies are demonstrating leadership qualities and will
be great assets to future Kiowa County 4-H programming.
The Outstanding Senior Youth
selections were also split between the Prairie Queen and Sheridan Lake
Clubs. Shalyn Laird, daughter of Terry and Areta Laird, is a ten year
member of the Prairie Queen 4-H Club. In those ten years, Shalyn has
accumulated forty project years. Projects have included: Ceramics,
Childcare, Cooking, Creative Cooks, Decorate Your Duds, Leadership,
Clothing, Home Environment, and Swine. She is also a consistent competitor
at the Colorado State Fair as part of a Creative Cooks team and will be
the 2005 Kiowa County 4-H Council Treasurer.
Lana Weber, daughter of Bob and Peg
Weber, is a seven year member of the Sheridan Lake Livewires 4-H Club.
Projects have included: Sheep, Rabbits, Child Development, and Global
Citizenship. Lana has accepted many leadership roles in both 4-H and
school. She will serve as President of the 2005 Kiowa County 4-H Council.
Congratulations to all four of these
young ladies and their parents on being selected as Outstanding Kiowa
County 4-H Youth for 2004.
