Wild Horse Roundup

We had a friend stop by this past week for a visit as he does twice a year, spring and fall. Clayton Huglee of Collins, Missouri who used to work around here years ago. One thing that was missing was our friend Red Craven who always came with him and who is gone now.

The Bergmans showed us a snapshot of their son Enoch who is a Vet in Australia. He is holding what looks like a baby kangaroo or joey as they are called. I imagine it is an interesting way of life there as it must be a little different than here.

The club ladies keep kinda busy as after cleaning for election day and the dinner they grabbed their needles and went to quilting. Today (Sunday) Yvonne was up there doing a little decorating.

Reading about the thistles at Wilkerson’s reminded me of quite a few years they blew in around the garage at the ranch. We have a picture of me on our John Deere and I am just sticking out as I was driving in them to mash them down.

The eclipse of the moon brought back a memory of many years ago and I do mean many. When I was a little kid I used to go up town and meet my mom where she worked at a hotel. One afternoon I went to meet her and it started to get dark and soon it was completely dark. It was a total eclipse of the sun. It was so dark, chickens went to roost. This little kid was scared, but I found my mom.

Bill Skinner and his mother and cousin Sandy have been having trouble having any heat. Their house has hot water heat and it hasn’t been working so we loaned them two electric heaters. Two of Bill’s brothers came down and brought a part so they got it going, but it still needs something electrically.

I baked a can of biscuits this morning and as my Uncle Sam would have said we put lickdab (butter) and larrup (syrup or honey) on them and we ate the whole can. Pretty good eating.
