Wild Horse Roundup

We received a nice letter with some pictures taken at Hugo homecoming day. It was from Margie Barngrover-Hornbeck of the class of ’48. The pictures were of her and her husband and I and of us eating at the fairgrounds. Lee wasn’t there so she didn’t meet her. I’m glad she enjoys my news.

Tuesday we went to Limon for flu shots and while there went to the dentist. I ate some popcorn and peanuts and I felt something happen to a tooth. I didn’t have an appointment, but they said wait a few minutes and they would look at it. He pushed on it and it broke off so he made me a tooth and saved me a trip going back. I was lucky.

Lee treated us all to dinner Wednesday in Kit Carson. It was getting close to her birthday and I should have done the honors. Oh, well.

Thursday morning Ray and Jane Borns stopped for a few minutes to see Lee Ann and girls. They were on their way to Limon for Jane to see the dentist.

Thursday Suzie Paintin worked at the school house. She painted all the door trim and installed a door bell at the door the handicap people use. It is required so the building could be used for elections. She then went to quilting. The two ladies Judy Hammer and Yvonne Schallenberger that are usually there were busy. Yvonne with UMW and Judy feeding the guys weaning calves and moving cattle.

Thursday Lee Ann, Marty, Jessi and Jenni went to Sterling to visit Lee Ann’s college coach Sheila Worley. She took them to supper and then to a volleyball game between Lamar and Sterling which Sterling won. Sheila had told the announcer of Lee Ann being there visiting from Norway and being a three sport player in the ‘70’s. There was balls with writing about the college on them that was throwed to the crowd. Miss Worley had told them to throw some toward our girls and Jenni and Jessi each got one plus she got all the girls a T-shirt. It was a fun time with lots of memories.

It was seven years ago Marty had an 80th birthday party planned for her mom and a big blizzard postponed it. Lee Ann and girls missed it as they had to go home. They had one a few days earlier at Parish Care Center.

Saturday we took Lee Ann and girls to DIA to catch their plane for home. It is 2 p.m. Sunday and Marty is talking to her now. She has been home about an hour and 45 minutes. They left Denver about 5 p.m. and nine hours to Frankfort, Germany and a three hour wait and on to Oslo for just 15 or so minutes to go to Kristiansund and a 30 minute wait for the ferry and then home. No bad problems and John and Kirsti met her at the plane. While waiting in Denver the girls worked on pictures and their report to give at school on Monday. This is their make up lesson for the last three weeks. Our house seems terribly empty.

Bill Skinner’s brother Wade from Denver is down visiting his mother and her cousin Sandy. Their house is sure looking nice with the new carpet and tile on the kitchen floor plus all the painting. They had lots of boxes to unpack and I don’t know if that is done or not.
