Wild Horse Roundup

Thursday was club and Lee was the hostess and she had her two cooks at home. Marty and Lee Ann served a real good turkey dinner and all the food and dessert everyone else brought, you had no trouble getting full. A new member was there as Toby and Amy Johnson brought their new baby and I can’t remember its name.

I mentioned at club I had to work on our well and as usual good friends showed up. Ernie Hammer and Darrell Schallenberger showed up and done most of the work while I watched. They said to call when I was ready to finish. Isn’t it great to live where we have such friends?

Thursday afternoon Marty, Lee Ann, Jessi and Jenni went to Cheyenne Wells and visited Kay Ann Sexson and children. Larry Smith joined them and they went out for pizza. I imagined old times was the main topic of conservation. They get together whenever Lee Ann comes home. I think it’s great they keep their old friendship alive.

Friday we all, except Lee, went to Lamar. We were invited to have lunch with Mike and Deb Lening in Eads. We had a nice meal and a lot of good conversation, catching up on one another’s family. It was then on to Lamar to find the stuff I needed for our pump and then the girls went shopping. Walking isn’t my favorite pastime, so I sat and drank coffee. I fell asleep once and about hit my face on the table. Enough of that.

Steve and family (7 of them) came Friday night to spend the weekend. It is a joy to us to have our kids home, plus some grandkids and some great grandkids.

Bill Skinner and Candy James got their new carpet in Friday and it sure looks nice. I think Bill’s mother moved back home today. Candy is a cousin of Bill’s mother. They sure have a lot of things to unpack.

Jeremy Gaynor and Leland Steiner and some others went hunting in the mountains and I seen Jeremy yesterday and asked for a bite of meat and he said the got one shot and missed. Leland was the only lucky one.

We got a package of some really interesting material about South Dakota from Keith and Lois Swan of Newell. They are from the Hugo area and take the Plainsman. Lois is a sister to Bob Ball who stopped here in July to get acquainted as he gets the paper too. Bill Swan who lives in South Dakota came and talked to me at the ballgame at Hugo’s homecoming. My column which to me don’t seem all that great, but quite a few people seem to like it which makes me feel good and makes me a lot of friends, the most who I’ll never see.

We got a card from Ernie and Judy Hammer from Nova Scotia. The picture is a whale watching a cruise that they went on. I don’t know just when they got home, but he was telling about it at club, but my hearing is so poor even with my hearing aids.

I don’t know as I ever mentioned that I heard that Allen and Luana Naugle took a trip to Alaska maybe two months ago. Sorry about that. I need to carry a notebook.

I hope I haven’t dwelled to much on the Schrimp family.

We had church today with a lady pastor from Calhan and she brought five girls with her and they sang some songs for us that was really nice. We had coffee at the school house and a nice visit.

This evening (Sunday) Perry and Bev Middleton of Lamar were supper guests of Lee Ann’s and the rest of us too, of course. Bev and her have been friends since school days and always get together when she comes home.
