Wild Horse Roundup

Well our kids are here from Norway. They got into Denver
abut 9:30 Friday night and to Hugo a little after midnight. Lee and I went
to Hugo Saturday morning to spend the day with them while enjoying
homecoming. Some of the girls Lee Ann coached had told Marty that they
would like to have her and the girls join them, so they got on the float
to the football field. They were a fine team of girls and still are. I
believe it was the class of ’79.
There was a fine parade and a lot of people speaking to us
that I had trouble with names. One lady came to Marty’s office and asked
if I would be there as she gets the Hugo paper. Marty said yes, and to
look for a big hat. We stood by her office and this man came up and called
me by name. He said his wife wanted to meet me, but was on the float of
1948. We got together at the fairgrounds. Her name is Margie Barngrover
Hornbeck and her and husband Doug were married in Hugo in 1951. Some
people who spoke were Bill Mowry’s wife, who was my leader in the CCC camp
and Dorothy Hawkins who is Bob Palmer’s sister whose husband was born in
Wild Horse, 78 years ago. He is gone now, an old timer, Bill Swan, I hope
that’s right, and Mrs. Anderson of Walks camp. I can’t name them all. The
football game didn’t go so well. Sorry if I bored you.

A fellow camped a couple of nights by our school house and
is riding a bicycle pulling a trailer with a solar panel that powers a
motor when the sun is shining that powers his bicycle and makes it easy to
pedal. He was going to Golden to meet with some solar energy people.
Bill Skinner and Candy are really cleaning house and
painting and new carpet coming this week. Bill Peterson of Hank’s Hardware
said he put carpet in that house in 1989 for Heber and Judith Holt.
Hooray for the Broncos, but the Rockies were kaput and my
Cubs ran out of gas.
