Though school was released, the work
load was still full for FFA members during fair. On Tuesday night, the
members showing swine washed and shaved their hogs in preparation for the
hog show. After selling shavings and watching their hog’s weights, the hog
owners got ready to show on Wednesday night. Thursday, all sheep, goat,
poultry, and rabbit producers were occupied presenting their animals to
the judges. The garden show was also on Thursday, with a few members
showing a multitude of garden vegetables. Friday was an eventful day,
considering that the steer show, horse show, and round robin took place.
Round robin was particularly hectic for some members, especially those who
had more than one animal receiving an award for grand champion.
The grand champions were: Jace
Roberson, Swine; Matea Mayo, sheep; Holli Watson, goat; Hunter Uhland,
steer and Kelly Lindholm, garden. In addition to the various shows, the
sale for all the animals was held Friday evening. All the animal
producers’ laborious efforts had finally paid off.

Saturday all individuals not
participating in another float sat on the FFA float that was constructed
by Ag classes three and four, which portrayed the memorial of Iwo Jima.
Following the parade, several members worked the Chevy scholarship ticket
and officer booths. Sunday morning the Ag two class and any other members
wanting to help, cleaned the fairgrounds for the derby. That afternoon
they were hard at work running the gates, and cleaning up areas around the
arena. The work they did and the money they earned will benefit them later
this fall when they are able to attend the National Convention in
Louisville, Kentucky.
Between taking care of their
animals, selling scholarship tickets, and constructing a float for the
parade, the members had an eventful weekend and returned to school on
Monday.
