Wild Horse Roundup

Well today was the Kiowa County fair and Marty and I went. Lee stayed home as it is just too much walking. We visited with a lot of people that if I tried to name them all I would run out of paper. We sat with the Mike Lening family at the rodeo. They are just like our family as they were our neighbors when they were married. Lee Ann used to drive a tractor for him pulling a lot of one-ways. A lady spoke to us that we didn’t know and she said she enjoyed my news. She had seen us at a ball game when Kirsti was here. It makes me feel good if someone enjoys it. One thing I like about the Kiowa County fair is the horse races and they had some good ones. We brought Lee some barbecue that she enjoyed.

Bud Buck of California and his son, Maynard of Las Vegas visited us Wednesday. They stop by at fair time every year as Bud is a native of near Eads. They had lunch with us and as usual discussed a little baseball.

Jim and Billie Lafferty went to Texas to visit her mom and others of her family. They stayed for a few days.

Ernie Hammers drove to Alamosa Wednesday to visit his aunt who is 98 years old. He said she lives in an apartment by herself and gets along very well. We didn’t see the Eads parade, but I think Ernie and Tony were going to take his team and wagon down there.

Ladies club was Thursday and Yvonne Schallenberger was the hostess. It seemed to me they were a little short on ladies as it looked like there were about as many men. It was a very good dinner as usual.

We seen Jerry and Helen Mae Starkweather in Kit Carson Tuesday. They were on their way back east to Virginia. They live there part of the time and Colorado Springs part time. She said they would probably be back in November.

Lee had a phone call from a cousin in Iowa who has a brother who lives on a small island off the coast of Florida. He had to move out because of the hurricane. We haven’t heard anything since so we don’t know if he had any damage.
