Group Honored For SHARE Participation

SHARE 3 Town was recently presented with a Distinguished Service Award for seven years of helping to spread the word of one of Colorado’s best kept secrets. SHARE 3 Town is one of nearly 300 host site locations that have teamed up with SHARE Colorado, a nonprofit organization specializing in bringing everyone groceries at half the retail price while strengthening communities.

The reason why we are called our host site 3 Town was because we serve Eads, Haswell and Kit Carson, said host site coordinator Cindy Pitman. We are a little different than most host sites because we run our site out of a building that used to be a bowling alley. The space is generously donated by the owner for SHARE use each month, and greatly appreciated.

The way SHARE works is it buys quality food in bulk, than through a team of volunteers and host site locations, which are normally churches, schools, apartment complexes or community centers, can bring the food packages to everyone at a reduced price. You pre-order your items at the beginning of the month than at the end of the month you can pick up your order at your closest host site location.

SHARE’s $21.00 package consist of a variety of chicken, fish, pork, beef, fresh fruits and vegetables which would retail between $40-$45. You also have the option to purchase smaller packages for $11.00 or Ala-carte items.

SHARE relies heavily on volunteers and asks its participants to give back to their community in anyway they can. It considers anything you do for someone else free of charge as volunteering.

"I describe SHARE as paying it forward," said Tiffany Papedo, marketing assistant. "So many people I talk to think this program sounds too good to be true. But SHARE operates with the help of 3,500 volunteers and only 15 paid employees. This why we can offer food so inexpensively and all they ask is that you do something helpful for someone else."
