Wild Horse Roundup

We had a pleasant surprise Thursday
when we got a call from Sonny and Virginia Redding. They were in Greeley
and were coming through here and wanted to take us and Duvall’s to dinner
so we could visit. Daisy missed out as she was in Colorado Springs.
Redding’s lived on the Steiner place near Bledsoe 50 years or so ago. They
are good friends and keep in touch. They live in Manhattan, Kansas.
We had another nice surprise this
morning (Saturday) when I got the mail there was a litter from Earl and
Velma Smades. They had the store here in the late 40’s and left I think in
the 50’s. The reason they wrote they got a phone call from Bob Ball,
formerly of Hugo and now of Rapid City, South Dakota. He stopped quite
some time ago just to meet us as he gets the Hugo paper and reads my
column and wanted to meet the person who writes such stuff. I asked him if
he knew the Smades and he said no but would call them. When he did he
asked if they knew Curtis Schrimp and Velma said yes for 58 years. So she
wrote and filled us in on the family.
Bill Skinner from across the street
called and said some turkeys were roosting in the trees by his house.
Marty and I went over later to see but, they had flown, too much noisy
traffic I imagine.
