Vivian Gifford of Eads has returned
from San Diego, California where she flew to celebrate her 80th
birthday with her son, Chuck, and wife, Joan and her grandchildren and
great grandchildren. Vivian was also glad to be there for the couples’ 25th
Wedding Anniversary. Viv’s friends are happy that she is safely back in
Eads.
Congratulations to Matt Weber
formerly of Eads and his bride, Desirae, of Greeley who were married in
Fort Collins. Matt is a senior microbiology student at Colorado State
University. Desirae will begin teaching in Keresy this month. Matt’s
parents, John and Eunice, nieces, Jeni and Sheri, and grandfather,
Clarence Weber all of Eads went to the wedding as well as other family and
friends from here and other parts of the state.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Brenton of La
Junta came over Saturday to take his sister, Evelyn Garner, out to lunch
at Our Place. Evelyn appreciates all the friends and family who have come
by to visit her.
We welcome Jerry McDaniel to 13th
Street. He bought the home where Gerard Bachand the intarsia wood artist
lived. Jerry comes from Craig, and is the son of Don and Phyllis McDaniel
of Eads. Some people have asked me, "Who is Jerry McDaniel whose
advertisements are in the paper?" Now we know who to call for the man who
has expertise in electrical, computer networking, telephone, and
electrical-mechanical work.
Congratulations to Jay and Duff (Liebl)
Haase who have a precious baby girl. Magdalen Maye is welcomed to their
Eads country home by two little brothers, Zachary and Joseph.
Jacob and Barb Diel returned from
Monte Vista, where they visited family in the San Luis Valley and attended
the Sky Line Stampede.
Loretta Seibel and Sis Howard laid
the ground work for the first "Red Hat-Purple Dress Society" at Our Place
Saturday morning. The ladies, who came in various fashions of purple and
wore striking red hats, had a great time. Guest Janie Bush told more about
what a Red Hat Society is. Then they decided to call themselves, "The Eads
Red Hatters" however ladies from other towns can join the fun. They plan
to meet on the third Saturday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Janie Bush will
host the next meeting at her ranch near Chivington and then there will be
a meeting at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon at Our Place to plan a float for the
county fair parade.
What a thrill Sunday morning as we
were driving to Kit Carson to see Rush Creek and Big Sandy Creek running
strongly. That is the most water we have seen in those creeks for years.
We Praise the Lord.
Ruth and Ruby Wissel of Eads were
thrilled to have Ruth’s son, Raymond, and wife, Shirley Wissel, of Rock
Springs, Wyoming, drive them to Owatonna, Minnesota, where they attended a
Buck Family Reunion. They were pleased that several of their brothers,
Clyde and Elsie Buck’s, children traveled there. From Colorado were Elvin
and daughter, Jessica Buck from Pueblo West, Ed and Lill Buck of Sterling,
Peg (Buck) Leinberger, and daughter, Cheryl and son Zach and Patty Hansen
as well as their brother Galen’s wife., Lola all of the Denver area. Their
sister, Florence (Buck) and Calvin Colvalt from Lousiana, Leo Buck from
California and the ladies’ brothers, Amis’s daughter, JoEle of Owatonna
came to the home of hosts Leanna (Buck) and Bob Peterson and their son,
Nick.
Carl and Zelda Peterson were glad to
have their daughter and husband, Janette and Virgil Kochis, and children,
Pam and Michael come to visit from Simila Sunday. Pam is leaving this week
for her new graduate assistant position at a Western Illinois University
in Hampton, where she is getting a Master’s Degree. Michael will be a
senior at Chadron State College in Nebraska.
The ice cream social at the Artist
of the Plains Gallery was a great success Saturday where one could buy a
bowl of three different flavors of homemade ice cream. We enjoyed looking
at the beautiful displays of art pieces, pottery, fabric art, glass art,
intarsia, and other creations.
I heard that Navy woman, Erika Rice,
visited her former patients and nursing staff friends at Weisbrod
Saturday. They were glad to see her before she leaves for her next
station.

Bill and Jackie Koehler hosted a
family reunion of children and grandchildren of Woody and Dorene Watts.
Jackie said, "They had a good time with us kids and their kids." The
balloons that decorated their fence looked so pretty as they bobbed over
Jackie’s beautiful roses.
Another fence with lots of
celebration balloons was at Mindy Krentz’s home on Hickman Street where
they celebrated her nephew, Tate’s, second birthday August 8th, and his
parent’s Chad and Shae (Haskell) Krentz’s wedding anniversary on the 7th
and Chad and Mindy’s parents’, Brad and Carol Allen’s , wedding
anniversary on the 6th. Chad and Shae are looking forward to
moving into their new home near Wiley in mid-September. It has been nice
to have them next door this summer while their home is being built.
Pansy Foxworthy returned home from
Kansas City via Amtrak where she had been visiting her son, Lee and Karen
and family in Kansas City.
There was a lot of excitement over
at Haswell last week with lots of rains, flooding of the streets, and
highway two or three nights. Then Saturday the national news reported
tornadoes spotted. Sure enough one lingered for about ten minutes west of
Arlington. They said the surprising thing was that it appeared to move up
from the earth rather than down from the sky.
Wally and Phyllis Mosher were here
from Colorado Springs to visit with friends and family over the weekend. I
noticed that Wally surely brought happy faces to his Aunt Ruth Koch and
former neighbor, Theo Kirshner and other folks he visited at Weisbrod.
Faye Barber is nearly always at the
Sunday Weisbrod Chapel Service. She missed this week because she and Ilene
and Laverne Eder attended the Walker family reunion up at Superior, near
Boulder.
Sue and Robin Musgrave visited Oscar
and Brandi Ridgeway at their Highlands Ranch home over the weekend.
George and Dorothy Ellicott had a
good time up at Snowmass last week. It was a working trip for George but a
vacation in the swimming pool for Dorothy.
A number of Eads band students and
parents enjoyed a trip to Denver Friday to attend the Drum and Bugle Corp
competitions at Invesco Field.
Joe and Orcellia Ramirez of Haswell
were glad to have her sister, Allbie and Joe E. Gonzales of Pueblo and her
brother, Robert and Emma Salazar from Colorado Springs spend three days
with them to help them with some cement work. The Ramierz’s have nice
gardens each year.
I went to my first Lions Club
meeting last week. I was drawn there by one word, "Scholarships". The club
is planning a hamburger fry and Bingo for September 21th.
Janie Bush has been traveling with
her husband, Joe, this month and has been buying beautiful red hats for
ladies about town. Mine is from, North Dakota, others are from Texas,
Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado.
Opal Miner, Georgina Gray, Ruth
Miller, Daisy Hebbard of Eads and Darrell Hebberds’s sister and mother
from Walsh were among the many guests who gathered at the home of Rex and
Bess Piper in Canon City to help Bess celebrate her 80th
Birthday. Ruth said it was a beautiful patio party with lovely foods and a
big cake.
