We, along with Lanes, left Wednesday
morning to play in the 10U Regional Softball Tournament in Chaffee,
Missouri. We stopped in Kit Carson to be joined by Kents and then in
Cheyenne Wells to be joined by the Bergs. We drove as far as Columbus,
Missouri the first night and then the following day went on to Jackson,
Missouri where we stayed during the tournament. After checking into our
motel we went to Chaffee and were joined by the rest of the team for team
check in. This was followed by a picnic for the team, hosted by the hosts,
Heartland.
Friday morning it was cool and
cloudy. We played Heartland American which we won 11-1. Kailey Lane had 1
run, 2 RBIs, 1 PO, and 3 assists. I had 2 RBIs and pitched 2 innings, and
1 PO. The afternoon game saw us playing in very hot and humid weather. We
lost to Washington (Independence, Kansas) 10-0. Kailey had 1 Assist and I
pitched 2 innings.
Our next game wasn't going to be
until Saturday morning so we went to Sikeston to eat at Lambert's "Home of
the Throwed Rolls". An anonymous person wanted us to experience this
restaurant and paid the team's meal.

Saturday morning we faced
Moundridge, Kansas and beat them 10-5. Kailey had 1 run, 1 PO, and 1
Assist. I had 2 runs. Now we had to face Heartland American again. At the
end of the 3rd inning we were ahead 9-3 and then our fielding errors began
and really hurt us. At the end of the 6th inning they had 12 and we had
11. This put us out of the tournament. Kailey had 2 runs, 1 RBI, 2 PO, 6
Assists. I had 1 run, 2 RBIs, and pitched 5 innings.
It was 5:00 by the time we finished
our game so we, along with Bergs, Kents, and Lanes, drove to Cape
Girardeau (about 15 miles) to see the paintings on the big wall that
protects the town from the Mighty Mississippi when the water level gets
high. We also drove across the new expansion bridge that goes across the
Mississippi River. After taking pictures and getting our feet in the muddy
waters of the Mississippi River, we returned to the motel. Sunday morning
we left for home, stopping in St. Louis to ride the 630 feet to the top of
the Arch, take pictures, and ride down on the other side. We also saw the
Eads bridge.
Playing in the Regional Tournament
and seeing new country was a good experience for us all. We are looking
forward to another year.
