Prairie Queen Members Attend Demonstration Contest

On June 28th, 2004 there was a 4-H Demonstration, Creative Cooks, and Cake Decorating Contest at the Community Building at the Kiowa County fairgrounds.

The following contestants from Prairie Queen 4-H Club participated:

Demonstrations- Carrie Roberson (senior) and Milly Spady (senior); Creative Cooks-Shalyn Laird and Chevaun Glover (senior team), Milly Spady, Cardon Brandt (intermediate), Jennifer Negley (intermediate), Tara Spady (intermediate), and Remington Brandt (junior); Cake Decorating- Milly Spady. The placing were Carrie Roberson Champion Overall and Milly Spady Reserve Champion Overall for demonstrations; Chevaun Glover and Shalyn Laird Champion Overall with Jennifer Negley taking Reserve Champion Overall and the other contestants received a blue award group ribbon for Creative Cooks; Milly Spady took Champion Overall for Cake Decorating.

 

The Judges coming up from Las Animas were Donna Siefkas for both Demonstration and Creative Cooks and also Kaylyn Siefkas for Cake Decorating and Demonstration. Thanks to those who participated in the contest. A special thanks to Bruce Fickenscher, our Extension Agent, for taking pictures and to Kay Kasza for putting this together and handing out ribbons.

Also, we would like to thank Pam Weirch for making the programs and ordering the ribbons.

The Creative Cooks had samples of dishes that ranged from an Italian noodle and vegetable dish to pizza to cherry dissert. The cake for Cake Decorating was frosted in pink and white with a design of lilies on top. The Demonstrations were about the uses of rabbits "Fur Fancy & Food" the other the difference between jam and jelly "Jam Up & Jelly Tight."
