Progressive FCE Club Celebrates 60 Years
By Doris Lessenden
July 2, 2004
Ladies of the Eads Progressive FCE
club met at the home of Doris Lessenden who was the hostess for the July
17th meeting. Margie Wiltfang began by sharing photos and mementos of her
trip to the State FCE Conference in Fort Morgan this month. She won third
place for the bandana pillow that she designed and sewed. Margie was
delighted to win the large framed photo of Rainbow Bridge which is over
the Platte River near Fort Morgan. This is nice since her home area is in
that part of the state. District Coordinator, Margie Wiltfang, presented
the nice certificates to Zelda Peterson for her 60 years as a member of
FCE clubs which was formerly known as Home Demonstration Clubs. Since
Maxine Mays is the President of our club, Margie presented a certificate
to her from the State Convention recognizing that our club has been in
existence for 60 years. Maxine herself has been an FCE member for over 55
years.
Roll call was answered by relating
"a special Eads Progressive Club memory which brought to mind many warm
and humorous stories from years past.

Communications were read from, Mrs.
Pat Leonard Hill who is our State President. Zelda Peterson read an
entertaining poem about "Where have all the Grandmas Gone?" and an
inspirational poem, "Wishing I Were More Like You."
Shalyn Laird and Jennifer Negley and
Jayce Negley of the Prairie Queen 4-H Club made presentations on their
various projects. They showed us their sewing fabrics, ceramics, leather
crafts and told about other projects. Both the girls are preparing
Creative Cook Demonstrations so they also shared their menus and told
about the foods they are making. Jennifer’s dog, Gypsy, was a highlight of
the meeting when she was brought in by her handler to show us some of her
4-H dog obedience training. The 4-H’ers help serve refreshments of fresh
fruits and pastries to the members and our guests, Dr. Angela Howard of
Houston, Texas and Mrs. Laura Negley.
