Senior Profile - Henriette Wicke
May 21, 2004
Henriette Wicke - Henriette was
born on October 5, 1986 in Bonn, Germany and is a foreign exchange student
at Plainview High School. This year she has greatly enjoyed experiencing
life in the States and has taken the opportunity to compete in all the
Hawk sports she could and take interesting classes as well. Her favorite
class is Spanish I over the Distance Learning (DL) because she loves to
learn languages because it is easy when one realizes there are many
similarities between English, Spanish, and French..another language she
knows...., and German. She also likes the DL mode of learning because she
gets to work with other students from many of the area schools. She sites
her parents as her role models because "they work hard to give my brothers
and me every opportunity we can get...especially the opportunity to come
to the United States to study." Her favorite childhood memory is going on
a trip to Portugal with her grandparents. This year at PHS she stay very
involved but enjoyed acting out a play that she and her classmates wrote
as her most memorable time. As with most of the foreign exchange students
Henriette is most proud of making her way to the USA alone and finding new
friends here so easily. Henriette's future plans include attending an
university in Germany but she is not sure what she will study yet. Her
very wise advice to underclassmen is to "learn for your self, not for the
teachers!"
