2004 Colorado Wheat Field Days Coming Up Soon

The 2004 Colorado Wheat Field Days
will be held in eastern Colorado from June 14th through June 21st. Field
tours will begin in Walsh on June 14th at 9 a.m. at the Plainsman Research
Center and at the John Stulp farm, 6 miles South of Lamar on State Highway
385, at 6 p.m. where a complimentary meal will be served, sponsored by
Farm Services of Southern Colorado. Tuesday, June 15th will find the tour
in Kiowa and Cheyenne counties. The first stop will be at Burl Scherler
Farms at 8 a.m., the field location is 7 miles north of Brandon on County
Road 59. In Cheyenne County, the tour will stop at the Tom Heinz Farm, 7.5
miles south of Cheyenne Wells on State Highway 385. Cargill Grain will
sponsor a complimentary meal at this location before the tour moves to the
Randy Wilks Farm, 8miles south of Burlington and 1 mile west on County
Road K.
Program speakers will include Scott
Haley, CSU, on Breeding and Varieties; Jerry Johnson, CSU, on Crop Testing
and the Colorado On-farm Tests; Darrell Hanavan and Casey Yahn, CWAC/CAWG/CWRF;
Sandra McDonald, CSU, on Weeds, Pesticides, and Diseases; Frank Peairs and
Associates, CSU, on RWA and Entomology; as well as representatives from
BASF and AgriPro.
The trials this year contain several
experimental varieties as well as some of the more common standard
varieties. Some varieties of hard white wheat are also being produced at
the sites. Wheat producers should plan on taking a couple of hours off the
tractor and attend these informative meetings. A schedule of the Wheat
