"Colorado Green Wind Farm" to be Dedicated in Lamar

PPM Energy, Shell WindEnergy, Inc. and GE Wind Energy, in collaboration with Lamar Chamber of Commerce, City of Lamar, Prowers County, Prowers County Development, Inc. and local business owners, announced the dedication ceremony date for the state's largest and the nation's fifth largest wind power project. It will be held on Friday, May 14 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Park. Lamar Chamber of Commerce President Cheryl Sanchez commented, "it's a happy coincidence that the companies involved with this project contacted us to schedule the wind farm's dedication during the planning stages of Lamar Days; our 2004 theme, "Winds of Progress Powering Our Future," is perfect." The Colorado Green dedication ceremony will begin with a wind energy proclamation signed by Governor Owens and read by Cheryl Sanchez.

This is a special weekend for Lamar; in addition to the Colorado Green Wind Farm dedication; it is Lamar’s 118th Birthday. Lamar will be celebrating with a weekend of festivities entitled "Lamar Days." Lamar Mayor Elwood Gillis added, '"to kick off Lamar's birthday with the Colorado Green Wind Farm dedication ceremony is the ideal way to begin the weekend's celebrations."

Lamar public school students will recognize the week of May 10 as '"Wind Energy Week" by learning about wind energy and creating art projects for display at the dedication. Curriculum for the week will be provided by GE, available on its website at www.ge.com. Additionally, a proclamation is being presented to Governor Owens to recognize "Wind Energy Week" statewide. Lamar plans to incorporate the week with Lamar Days annually.
