Canon City to join US 50 Coast to Coast Yard Sale

Canon City will join with communities coast to coast this May when they participate in the Great US 50-Yard Sale (www.Hwy50.com).

The fifth annual event comes Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23rd. Main Street U.S.A. Canon City organizers are planning Fremont County's first year of participation.

Organizer's hope to gather residents, merchants and businesses together along four miles from Mackenzie Avenue to First Street to buy, sell and enjoy.

Although U.S. 50 has been called "The Loneliest Road in America", coordinator's hope to generate interest in the communities along the road, as well as to encourage tourism.

The nationwide event began in 2000, located mostly in Indiana. This year, counties in all 12 Highway 50 states and the District of Columbia plan to participate. In Colorado alone, 10 counties have expressed interest in holding sales.

Main Street U.S.A. organizer's plan to rent out spaces for individuals in several U.S. 50 parking lots and two city parks. Main Street merchants will hold sidewalk sales on Saturday to attract yard sale goers to Canon City's Historic Downtown.

Those interested in reserving a space or with any other questions, please call County Coordinator: Ione Stroup-719-275-3482 or Email-ioneandlarrystroup@netzero.net.
