Wild Horse Roundup

We lost one of the best friends we ever had with the passing of Shirley Matthews this past week. She was a sister of Peggy Pursley. We spent a lot of time back in the 1930’s with their family the Shorts. They lived in the Second Central District which is south and west of Seibert. Mom Short was always glad for Curt and Lee to show up for Sunday dinner. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. She will be missed.

The Ladies Club met Wednesday with Judy Hammer as hostess. It was a delicious meal served to a large crowd. The dining room was decorated for St. Patrick’s Day with lots of green characters.

Steve called and talked to Marty today and said he took Kirsti on a sightseeing trip. He took her to Colorado Springs Friday there they went to the Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds and some places I don’t remember. He wanted to take her to Seven Falls, but ran out of time. She spent today with Ann Blomgren and kids, who is a friend of Lee Ann’s who will bring her home tomorrow (Sunday).

I still think about our boys being 1A champs. Coach Trahern has done a great job with the boys over the years and is getting the boys going that are coming up, with a tournament this weekend.

I was told that Clax Duval is in a hospital in Denver for a bypass operation, but I haven’t heard anything further. We hope and pray it won’t be a long stay.

I was reading a few days ago about radios of years ago and like so many things it got me thinking. Back in the 20’s a neighbor of ours in Monmouth, Illinois had a crystal that didn’t have speakers, you had to wear earphones. One time I was at their house and he was listening and he held an earphone to my ear and I could hear music faintly. What a thrill for a little boy.

A few days ago we had two wild turkeys in our back yard. We hadn’t seen any all winter until a week when Marty seen six in the creek.

Jim Lafferty told me two state highway workers brought some dirt to our cemetery that is needed to fill holes that animals have dug. We all owe them a big thank you, as we don’t have much of a way to get dirt. Jim and Billie have been filling the holes for which we are thankful. In the summer Allen and Luanna Naugle takes care o the mowing and such that keeps it nice. Let it rain.

Sunday morning Lee got me out of bed before 6:30 and said come and look. There were 15 or so turkeys along the road across from our house and some traffic went by, but it slowed down. I went out and yelled and they threw their heads up and then stopped so I took a can and hit it on the porch railing and they took off down Main Street. I don’t like to see them hit.
