Judicial Performance Commission Seeks Comments

The Judicial Performance Commission for the 15th Judicial District is soliciting written comments regarding the upcoming retention election for District Court Judge Stanley A. Brinkley of Lamar. The comments will provide public input to the nine local commission members who make a recommendation regarding judge retention for the ballot in November. Written comments must include your name and address and should be mailed to: Darla Specht, Chairperson, 1204 East Olive, Lamar, CO 81052. Ms. Specht will take comments at her law office by calling (719) 336-6887 or by e-mail at: darlaspecht@cminet.net. Subject line should indicate "Judicial Performance". Comments must be received by April 30, 2004, and are for the use of the commission only.

Judges in Colorado have been appointed by the Governor since 1966. During 1988, the legislature created the commissions on judicial performance. The purpose of the local commission is to provide voters with fair, responsible, and constructive evaluations of judges seeking retention in general elections. The results of the evaluations also provide judges with information that can be used to improve their professional skills as judicial officers.

Members of the local commission are: Robert Bledsoe, Darla Specht, Randa Davis-Tice, Patricia Daugherty, Richard Widener, Don Steerman, Ethel Tempel, Karen Verhoeff, and Larry Watts.
