Eads Preparing for Municipal Election

Eads Town Clerk Dawna Peck is making preparations for the increasingly likely possibility that the town will be holding an election April 6.

As of mid-morning Wednesday, five petitions had been taken out for four available Trustee seats on the board. Three petitions had already been returned from Dennis Pearson, Cardon Berry, and incumbent Charles Howard. Petitions had not yet been returned by Bill Barlow and incumbent Diane Crow. Since four seats are available, if five or more valid petitions are returned for Trustee, an election must be held.

Mayor Larry Michael has returned a petition to seek another term, and is currently unopposed.

Petitions must be returned to Town Hall by 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, and must have a minimum of 10 valid signatures. In order to be valid, a signature must match the voter’s name as registered. For example, a voter registered as "J. Wayne Doe" must sign the same way, and could not sign as "John W. Doe."

Potential candidates who miss the petition deadline to be included on the ballot could instead file an affidavit by March 17 to be allowed to run as a write-in candidate. Write-in votes for anyone who has not filed an affidavit would not be counted.

Voters who will be unable to vote Election Day can apply for an absentee ballot at Town Hall by April 2. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Town Clerk not later than 7:00 p.m. election day.
