Kids Invited to Experience Bent's Fort

Applications are now being accepted
for Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site's annual "Kid's Quarters" event
to be held on Saturday, June 12, 2004. Children ages seven to eleven are
invited to experience what life was like for the 1840s laborer,
trader/clerk, soldier, blacksmith, Plains Indian, hunter/trapper, domestic
laborer or carpenter.
Activities will include
blacksmithing, carpentry, cooking, military drills, Indian crafts and
skills, beaver trapping, adobe making, and livestock use and care.
Pre- registration and payment of a
$4.00 non- refundable program fee are required. The program is limited to
the first 80 registered children. Applications may be obtained at Bent's
Old Fort National Historic Site offices at 35110 Highway 194 East or 402
Santa Fe Avenue, La Junta, Colorado or by calling (719) 383- 5026.
