About Town

Linda Trosper treated the ladies who
attended the Weisbrod Hospital District Auxiliary’s luncheon Tuesday at
noon with pink cup cakes, heart-shaped note pads and packets of candies.
Linda said that she and Suzanne Williams, who are the co-coordinators of
the Weisbrod Hospital District Bazaar, wanted to give an extra "Thank you"
to the auxiliary ladies for all the work they do to help with the Fall
Bazaar. We were pleased to hear that the ladies plan to decorate a room in
a new western motif with money donated by the Roy Robertson family. Ida
was in that room last fall so we know that will be a pleasant improvement.
Charles and Sis Howard were in
Denver last weekend to the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League)
officer planning meeting. Sis is the Zone President for the Eastern Plains
group.
George Crow provided the roast beef
for the Senior Citizen’s dinner and June Blooding peeled and mashed lots
of potatoes for the monthly dinner. Mary Anne Hulteen and Peggy Sheldon
made the best brown gravy to complement the dinner. During the meeting,
people were warned about the Publishing House scam, credit card scams and
urged to read the AARP magazine for more information. March 24th
is the date for visiting the legislators at the State Capitol. Anyone who
wants a ride on the bus needs to call Faye Barber before the seating is
all taken. We were pleased to have three pastor couples attend: Alvin and
Margaret Clamp, Donald and Wendy Lott, and Gary and DeEtta Goettel
Several days last week we saw Bing
(Crow) Dixon playing dominos with her two sisters in the Weisbrod dining
room. Bing’s daughter, the former Pam Barnes, visited here Sunday.
Ruth Rose who has sat on the second
row bench at ball games for years with the Pfingstons, Watts, and Eders
was honored recently at the basketball games as the Honored Senior
Citizen. Through the years she has been an avid fan of her great nieces
and nephews. Currently those in school who are the "apple of her eye" are
T.J. and Trice Watts in high school and Talara and Tanaia Hansen in grade
school.
Marvin and Blanche Templer were glad
to have their son, Eddie, fly here from Washington D.C. last week. Their
granddaughter who is a student cadet at the Air Force Academy was also
able to come on President’s Day weekend.
The CSAP tests were begun at the
Eads Schools this week. They usually spread over several days or weeks.
But our real point is to parents, grandparents, and other caretakers, "Be
SURE, your STUDENTS get plenty of SLEEP and HEALTHY FOODS." Statistics
show that these factors increase scores in all testing situations.
Mona Walker and her dietary staff,
the Activities department ladies, and the nursing staff on Thursday
evening served the "Meal of the Month". This soup supper was a real hit.
They used my granddaughter, Kristi Hirsch’s , recipe for white chili
(chicken, white beans, green chili). We also had a choice of broccoli and
cheese soup or potato soup. This was served with homemade bread that we
all relished and tasty choices from the dessert bar. Our favorite was the
three-layer dessert that is my great grandson, Jacob’s, favorite dessert.
Tuesday and Thursday were the last
home basketball games in Eads. Gene and Charlotte Lynn of Springfield were
recognized as the Honored Senior Citizens. They both attended Eads schools
and have two grandchildren, Brandon and Audrey Shade who graduated from
EHS. Presently their granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn is a junior in Eads. The
Lynns drive here for nearly every sports event, drama play, and FFA
activity that Jennifer participates in.
Margaret Frazee is another senior
citizen who was honored. She has lived in or near Eads for 79 years. Both
she and her parents graduated from EHS. Margaret had three sons who
graduated from Eads, Forest, Dennis, and Robert and many nieces and
nephews. We especially remember her contribution to Eads by the large
Mount Holy Cross and Columbine scene she and other students painted in the
l940’s. This is above the east stairway. She also helped paint the mural
of the Sand Creek Massacre in the Kindergarten Room and the painting in
the south science room .
