Uhland Champion at Strasburg
By Elaine Lindholm
January 30, 2004
Eads traveled to Strasburg the 24th
and came home placing 4 individuals and 8th as a team out of
18. Very good considering the Eagles only had 5 wrestlers with their
Senior leaders, Kraft and Cordova, still out with injuries.
Hunter Uhland at 103 was back at his
winning ways bringing home the gold with some impressive wins. His first
match barely warmed him up for the rest of the day as he quickly pinned
Low from Custer County. His closest match was with Morales from Sheridan,
a 4A school, winning 9-5. Uhland avenged a loss with a technical fall win
(15-0) for the championship over Springer from Wiggins who had beaten him
in the first tournament of the year. Uhland was ranked 7th but the win
over Springer, who is ranked 4th, should raise him a few
notches.
Josh Fry started out with a quick
pin against Hendrickson from Stratton but met up with LeValley of Limon.
LeValley, who is from Karval, wrestles with the Limon team and also
wrestles year round, went on to win the tournament. Fry rebounded with
another pin before losing to Stuckwisch of Peyton in a close one. He could
possible meet Stuckwisch at regionals and will be getting ready for the
rematch.
Kelly Lindholm pinned his first
opponent and decisioned Bauer from Strasburg. Next came his closest
matches winning by 2 over Wood for Crowley County, also a potential
competitor at regionals. Lindholm next had to face the #2 ranked wrestler,
Plath from Peyton. This time it was Lindholm who lost by 2 and placed 2nd.
The match was a good gauge and he now knows what he will have to work on
as Plath will also be at regionals.
Brandon Cordova had one of his
better tournaments. He had decisive decisions over his first 2 opponents
before meeting up with Henderson from Cheyenne Wells. Cordova also avenged
a loss earlier in the year with a win over Henderson but was behind before
he made his move and pinned Henderson. That win put Cordova in the
championship round but he lost this one to bring home 2nd
place.
Placing 3rd, Freshman
Tyler McCracken, had a couple of pins against opponents that will also be
in his region but lost to Hobbie from Cheyenne Wells who will be there
also. He rebounded to finish 4-1 for the day.

Strasburg is always a good
tournament with many 2A schools that will be in our region. Coaches
Tinness and Jagers and their boys will have their work cut out for them
before meeting some of these opponents at regionals. First they will need
to get ready for the upcoming Eads Tournament this Saturday the 31st
then the following Saturday in Crowley.
