Kiowa County 4-H Council Report

The monthly meeting of the 4-H Council met at Eads on January 19, 2004. The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Jace Roberson at 7:03 p.m. The following people attended the meeting: Jace Roberson, Dally Lessenden, Vincent Koeller, Bruce Fickenscher, Brenda Fickenscher, Dawn James, Jessica James, PJ Lessenden, Lana Weber, Cassie Harris, Kim Harris, Gail Koeller, Milly Spady, Brandy Turcott, Bonnie Lessenden, Areta Laird, and Carol Spady.

Dally read the minutes from our previous meeting. Jessica gave the treasurer’s report.

New Business to be discussed was the scheduling of the IFYE delegate, Faith Poet, from Flagler, will be in Kiowa County February 3. She will be at the Eads schools at 10:00 a.m. and at Plainview school at 2:00 and then she will be attending the Sheridan Lake Livewires Valentine Potluck Dinner at 6:00 p.m. Ms. Poet went to Greece and Denmark and will be giving a report on these countries.

The District 6 Officer Training is set for February 8th at La Junta with registration at 1:45 p.m. The workshops will be about ½ hour this year followed by the meeting, swimming and a pizza party. This training is open to all members especially club officers and members thinking about holding an office in the future. Club Leaders need to register the members of their clubs with Bruce no later that February 3rd.

Beef Weigh-In is scheduled for February 27th. Leaders need to get Bruce a list of members who will be doing a Beef project this year as soon as possible.

Kiowa County Leader Training is set for Monday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. This is a Mandatory Meeting for ALL Leaders.

The Family Hunting/Outdoor Skills Challenge, YHEC (Youth Hunter Education Challenge) will be held at Flagler Lake State Wildlife Area on May 1 & 2 starting at 8:00 a.m. each day. They can handle only 50 shooters per day so space will be limited. Contact Bruce as soon as possible for a registration form if you are interested. This event is for 4-H members and their families and Non-4-H members.

The Colorado Junior Rodeo Association date has been changed to June 19 & 20.

 

The Fun Festival is set for March 5th and the Prairie Queen 4-H Club has volunteered to be the Host Club. Entry forms are due by February 27th.

The Council voted no, to the invitation to provide a candy bar concession stand for the Baby Bear Hugs safety fair they are planning.

Other business brought before Council: Milly asked about having a Livestock Judging Team. Bruce asked her to get a list of members interested in participating. Practice judging will have to take place on the weekends with several judging events being held over the summer.

PJ announced the Haswell Milemarkers would be having a Valentine Dance on February 6, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the Haswell Community Building.
