Eagle Wrestlers Have Rough Weekend with Injuries

Eads traveled to Holly Thursday the 15th for a Tri-Meet with Holly and Stratton. Due to the criteria on the number of matches each wrestler can have, Cody Cordova only had one match for the night. This was a fast paced match, which lead to an injury to Cordova’s elbow as both wrestlers "tumbled" off the mat. Cordova was able to continue in spite of the injury and pinned Vargas from Holly.

Kraft had 2 pins for the night but in his match against Sitts from Holly he also received an injury. On a take down, Sitts tied it up but in the process Kraft hurt his knee. This was an important match for Kraft for regional seeding, so he decided to ignore the pain and promptly won with a pin. Josh Fry and Kelly Lindholm also were only able to wrestle once for the night but made it count with wins. Fry showed how much he has improved in one year with a decisive win over McMillian from Holly who had beaten Fry twice last year.

Holly Tri-Meet results:

Cody Cordova 152: Pinned Vargas, Hol, 3:39.

Shawn Kraft 171: Pinned L. Hornung, St, 2:58; Pinned Sitts, Hol 3:04.

Josh Fry 119: TF over McMillian, Hol 19-4.

Kelly Lindholm 160: Pinned S. Hornung, St, 4:43.

Brandon Cordova 145: Received a forfeit, St; Decisioned by K. Davis, Hol 8-12.

Tyler McCracken 112: Received a forfeit, St; Pinned Christian, Hol 2:59.

At the Wiggins tournament Eads faltered some and for the first time this year, they didn’t have anyone in the top 2 slots.

Sophomore, Brandon Cordova, has been showing some great talent and strength. Placing in every tournament he has competed in so far this year, kept his streak going with a 3rd place win. His first match of the day pitted him against a wrestler from Greeley West, a 5A school, but he didn’t let that deter him and won with a pin. However, the only loss he had for the day was against Henderson from Cheyenne Wells who will be in his region. Brandon will have to do some more improving before they meet there. The match for 3rd place was exciting. The match was back and forth before Cordova finally came out on top for the win.

Cody Cordova, has also placed at every tournament. He was one and one for the day before the match for 3rd but his elbow hadn’t quite healed from the injury Thursday so he decided to forfeit giving him 4th.
Due to the injury Kraft received at Holly, he decided to give his knee a much-needed rest and didn’t compete in Wiggins.

Josh Fry had a rough tournament with some outstanding wrestlers in his weight. He also first met up with a wrestler from Greeley West who proved too much for Fry. He rebounded with an exciting overtime win before losing a closing one 2-4.

Kelly Lindholm received 3rd place for his efforts for the day. Going 3-1, his only loss was 5-7 in overtime.

Hunter Uhland’s only loss came from Behrens also from Greeley West. He rebounded with 2 straight wins for 3rd place.

Freshman, Tyler McCracken, also drew a Greeley West wrestler and handled him fairly easy for the win but in the process injured his shoulder. Not wanting to risk further injury and give it time to heal, McCracken forfeited for the rest of the tournament and didn’t have the opportunity to place.

We wish Kraft, Cordova and McCracken a speedy recovery and to be back at the mats soon.
