Wild Horse Roundup

Saturday afternoon a group of friends gathered at the old pool hall in Kit Carson to wish Red Craven a happy 94th birthday. There were people there from Strasburg, Karval and Seibert and I might have missed some. I had a good visit with Joe and Faye Schmitt and daughter Marsha. We always find plenty to talk about. As usual I had to ask a name or two, but when you have only known them 40 years or so what can you expect. I won the booby prize playing pitch and when they handed it to me they said go home and practice. It was a nice party and we wish for Red many more.

Marty took Kirsti to Denver Friday to have the braces on her teeth and the tooth that they are wanting to come down is showing up real good. They stayed the night at Steve’s and got home Saturday evening. Steve’s granddaughter also got sick in the night and could hardly breathe, so they called an ambulance and took her to the hospital where she stayed the night. I guess she had the croup.

We are proud of Kirsti as she has been honored by the U.S.S.C.A. National Student Council award. She was nominated by Rhonda Covington, the sponsor at Genoa-Hugo school.

I went to Kit Carson Friday evening to see the ball game with Karval and when I walked in the school it seemed like a strange place as I don’t know any of the kids. Kit Carson dominated the games I saw, and the boys were shooting three pointers like it was a common thing to do. I had a nice visit with the Louis Wezels whom I hadn’t seen for years.

The ladies club met Thursday and had a delicious dinner. I had been to Hugo and just as I got home Judy Hammer came and got Lee as we forgot. There were quite a few men that took advantage of a good meal.

I had a nice letter from Bennie Fischer of Eads and he included a clipping of the 70th anniversary of Pete and Orlea Bressler. That beats us five years. Bennie said he was a good ballplayer. It seems like I remember the name, but I wouldn’t bet on it. I remember playing at Galatea one time and Vernon (Tuffy) Johnson was at bat and he didn’t like the umpires call and turned and said something and the ump grabbed his mask off and hit tuff in the face. It got a little bloody, but the game went on.

Marty and I cut down trees this morning for her and when we get them sawed up it will make her a nice pile of wood.
