Eagle Wrestlers Host Tri-Meet and Compete at LamarJanuary 16, 2004 Eads dominated the mats for the hometown Tri-Meet hosting Simla and Baca County last Thursday the 8th. As a team they only lost 1 match and defeated both Simla and BC, 36-12 and 36-15 respectively. This tri was an important gauge for the wrestlers as both teams will be at regionals and could possibly meet there. The day of a sporting event, it is so nice to drive downtown and see the spirit flags along the sidewalks flying the purple and gold. Results - Cody Cordova, 152: pinned Markle, S, 3:31; pinned Burnett, BC, 1:04. Shawn Kraft, 171: pinned Arde, S, 3:42; pinned McKinley, BC, :38. Josh Fry, 119: received forfeit, S. pinned Orebaugh, BC, 3:11. Kelly Lindholm, 160: decisioned Reese, S, 11-2; pinned Hancock, BC, 3:06. Brandon Cordova, 145: decisioned Scherrer, S, 8-7; pinned Gonzales, BC, 1:04. Hunter Uhland, 103: Received forfeit, S and BC. Tyler McCracken, 112: pinned Roswold, S, 1:37; decisioned by Cogburn, BC, 7-9. At the Lamar Tourney Saturday the 10th, Eads placed 6 individuals and placed 6th as a team. Junior Kelly Lindholm, wrestling at 160 pounds this year, had 3 straight wins for the weekend before running up against Carlos Contreras from Lamar. His 2 wins Thursday helped prepare him for this tourney drawing Upton from Ridgeview Academy first. Upton proved to be a tough opponent. Lindholm took the lead and slowly increased it before comfortably leading enough to work on some takedowns. In the championship match, Lindholm took on Contreras. Giving Contreras a good match, Lindholm ended up losing bringing home the 2nd place medal. Week four rankings show Lindholm ranked 5th. Cody Cordova easily won his 2 matches at the Eads Tri and started out the same at Lamar, pinning his first 2 opponents in the first period. Nunnery from Lamar who is ranked 1st in 3A, proved to be a tough competitor beating Cordova who also placed 2nd. Cordova is also ranked 5th. Kraft won his 2 matches easily at Eads but couldn’t get a win in Lamar. His weight at 171 pounds was "the toughest weight of the tournament" according to one Lamar coach. Kraft is also ranked 5th.

Josh Fry who also had a win at Eads was up and down at the Lamar Tourney with a win and a loss and a win and a loss. Josh brought home some hardware again with a 4th place win. Brandon Cordova who was also 2-0 at Eads finished 2-2 at Lamar and placed 4th. In week four, Brandon made the rankings list for the first time, ranked in the 7th slot. Failing to make weight, Hunter Uhland was bumped up to 112 and proved to be a tough competitor at the heavier weight placing 3rd. Uhland also made the rankings for the first time, ranking in the 5th spot at 103. Tyler McCracken took on a tough Cogburn at the Eads Tri giving him a tough match losing only by 2. This was a great test for the young wrestler as Cogburn is ranked 4th. At Lamar, McCracken easily won his first 2 matches with pins before taking on #1 ranked Vialpando from John Mall. Josh Fry 119: decisioned Brazy, Yuma, 8-5; decisioned by Nelson, John Mall, 2-10; pinned Leach, Sand Creek, 2:15; pinned by Salazar, Ridgeview, 2:56. Kelly Lindholm 160: decisioned Upton, Ridgeview, 13-6; decisioned by Contreras, Lamar, 1-10. Brandon Cordova 145: decisioned by Salazar, Ridgeview, 5-10; decisioned Galetta, Sand Creek, 9-6; decisioned Davis, Holly, 13-8; decisioned by Salazar, RV, 3-15. Hunter Uhland 112: T-Fall, Burton, Ellicot, 15-0; pinned by Vialpando, JM, 1:38; pinned Cole, Las Animas, :59; decisioned Rangel, Lamar, 7-4; pinned Burton, El, :58. Tyler McCracken 112: pinned Florez, Dumas, 2:54; pinned Rangel, Lamar, 2:06; pinned by Vialpando, JM, :50. The Eads JV team ranked 10th out of 16 teams. Coach Montee Tinnes and his Eagles will be at Holly this Thursday and at Wiggins on Saturday.
