Southeast Colorado Bull Test 35 Day Report

The 47 bulls in the 30th annual Southeast Colorado Bull Test were weighed on December 30, 2003 following 35 days on test. Seven breeds are represented in this years test including – Gelbvieh, Angus, Brangus, Saler, Irish Black, Simmental, and Herefords (Polled and Horned).

The top gaining bull is a Simmental consigned by Saint Vrain Simmentals from Longmont, Colorado. This Ellingson Black Perfector son gained 4.86 pounds per day over the 35 day period. Two bulls follow closely in second and third place with a 4.83 pound per day gain; one Hereford out of Star Geronimo 335K consigned by Bruce and Joyce Leach from Lindon, Colorado and an Angus out of Connealy Freightliner from Davis Farms, Lamar, Colorado.

Ten bulls gained 4 pounds per day or more and 24 bulls gained between 3 and 4 pounds per day. The average daily gain for the first 35 days on test was 3.42 pounds per day with and average weight per day of age of 2.77 pounds.

 

Top gaining sire groups include nine sons of Anetta’s Power Play Brody 31 from Anetta’s Angus, Springfield, Colorado with a average group gain on 3.54 pounds per day. Four sons of McPherson G 5228, also from Anetta’s Angus, gained 3.47 pounds per day. Four Brangus sons of Mr. J.S. Duke 918L3 from Wheatland Brangus, Lakin, Kansas hold third place in the sire groups, gaining 3.25 pounds per day. Fourth place goes to three Saler sons of Hubb PLD Dakota 41K from J Open A Partnership and John Smartt of McClave, Colorado with a gain of 3.13 pounds per day. Sire groups must contain three or more sons from a single sire.
