Wrestlers Compete at Las Animas and Holly

Eads traveled to Las Animas Friday, the 19^th to compete in a tri-meet with Merino and Las Animas. Results are as follows:

Shawn Kraft (171): Dec. Curtis, M, 6-5; pinned King, L.A., 5:32.

Cody Cordova (152): Dec. Schneider, M, 6-5; Ex. Match, Dec. Michel, M, 14-4.

Josh Fry (119): Pinned by Brown, M, 5:25; Ex. Match, Pinned by Goldsberry, M.

Kelly Lindholm (160): Dec. Munoz, M, 3-1; Ex. Match, Dec. Bowey, M, 14-3.

Brandon Cordova (145): Dec. by Unrein, M, 5-6; Dec. Porterfield, L.A., 17-0.

Hunter Uhland (103): Dec. Trout, M, 5-4; drew a forfeit against L.A.

Tyler McCracken (112): Pinned Brown, M; Pinned Valera, L.A. 1:40.

Eads had a great showing at the Holly Christmas Tournament, Saturday the 20th. With 7 wrestlers on a team, it is hard to compete against the bigger schools whose rosters field a full team having individuals in each weight division. If team scores were kept on a percentage basis Eads would have scored 100% on placement as all 7 wrestlers placed in the top 4 spots.

This week’s featured wrestler is Junior Josh Fry who is wrestling this year at 119lbs. Josh has shown tenacity over the last couple of years and it is starting to pay off. As a young wrestler, Josh had the know-how but didn’t quite have the muscle to back it up. Now, the combination of the two have added up to his 2^nd placing of the year as he brought home the 4^th place medal from Holly. His only 2 losses for the day were from the same wrestler, Servin from Garden City Kansas.

After placing 3^rd in his first two tournaments, Cody Cordova slipped to 4^th. Failing to make weight at 152 he was bumped up to 160. Cordova started the day with two excellent wins by pins but ran into an undefeated Logan from Dumas Texas. For the consolation round, Cordova wrestled a great match coming up just one point short.

Shawn Kraft was undefeated going into the Holly Tournament but lost his first match of the season. Kraft pinned his first two opponents and then had to face another undefeated wrestler, Cambern from Dumas. Even though Cambern pinned Kraft, it took him almost the full 3 periods as Shawn gave him an excellent match.

Kelly Lindholm placed 2^nd for the 2^nd time this season. Lindholm has had some close matches this season losing some and winning some. He went 2 and 1 for the day losing in the championship round to the same Logan from Dumas who had wrestled Cordova.

Wrestling in his first tournament for the season, Brandon Cordova had a great start placing 3^rd. Cordova won his first match by a pin but then had to contend with last year’s state champion, Marshall from Swink. That would be the only loss of the day for Brandon as he won his next 2 matches.

Hunter Uhland brought home the only 1^st place medal for the team. Uhland handled his first opponent with a 15-0 win but after that the hard work started. He won the next match by one and then had to face Trout from Merino. He knew it would be a tough match as he had just faced him the night before winning by only a point. This would be a repeat of the night before except this match would take them into double overtime where Uhland held on to Trout for a 1-point win in an exciting finish.

Tyler McCracken also won his 2^nd medal of the year, placing 3^rd. McCracken pinned his first opponent before losing to Smith from Merino who would eventually win the tournament. McCracken had a close match and another exciting win against Brown from Merino then easily handled Christian by a pin for 3^rd place.
