Brett Edward Gibbs was born on May 9, 1960 to Bennie and Marilyn Gibbs. He passed away November 28, 2003 at his family home. Brett graduated from Kit Carson School in 1978. After high school he spent several months working with his uncle Bill Mast, for the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. In 1979 he attended Colorado Northwestern Community College and graduated in 1981 with an Associate Degree in Aviation Technology. Brett continued to work at the college as a pilot instructor until 1983.
He then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and began working for the Gabriel Management Company, which was a pilot service for charter planes. After 2 years he then moved to San Antonio, Texas and worked for Diamond Shamrock were he flew a Lear jet. While working for Shamrock he flew across the United States often having celebrities as his passengers. It was always a dream of Brett's to be a pilot for a major airline. In 1987 he fulfilled his dream and started to fly for Continental Airlines and moved to Houston, Texas, which became his home where he developed life long friendships. Brett remained in Houston until August of 2001 when he moved back to Kit Carson where he remained until his death.
When ever possible he spent much of his time working on his computer or hooking up a new subwoofer on his stereo. He had a knack for fixing anything electrical and could figure out how it worked before reading the instructions. Brett also had a love for music. If the music wasn't loud it wasn't music to him. He had a wide variety of CD's and records. Brett also liked to watch anything Science Fiction, but his greatest love was Star Trek and while he was watching the movies he would like to have the surround sound on so he would feel like he was a part of the movie.
When the weather was nice he liked working outside planting trees and a garden or working on the tractor. He also liked to fix things or modifying them to make them work better than they did before.
Brett was preceded in death by his father Bennie Gibbs, Grandfather "Doc" Gibbs, and Grandmother Helen Schneider.
He is survived by his mother Marilyn and Ralph Bullock of Kit Carson, brothers Victor and (Doris) Gibbs of Kit Carson, Terry and (Susi) Gibbs of Capitan, New Mexico, stepsister Launa and (Rick) Deeds of Pritchett, step brothers Greg and (Sharon) Bullock of Lamar and Jim and (Christine) Bullock of La Junta and grandmother Burness Gibbs of Kit Carson, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
