Like most small weekly newspapers,
the content of the Kiowa County Press is made up of a combination of
staff-written material and items submitted by our readers. With the advent
of the new technology age and people becoming more familiar with computer
technology such as scanners and digital cameras, many recent items
submitted by readers for print in the Kiowa County Press have been
accompanied by ink jet photos. While the photos are great for passing
around for family and friends to see, even the best photos printed by an
ink jet printer are not suitable for reproduction in a newspaper. While a
photo printed by an inkjet printer may look like a photograph to the human
eye, to a computer such images look like distinct or slightly overlapping
red, blue and yellow dots – and are nearly impossible to convert into a
legible image for newspaper printing. Therefore, a lot of the photographs
submitted to us have gone unused.
If you have digital photos you would
like to submit for publication with other items, please e-mail the digital
files to
press@kiowacountypress.com. You can also mail or drop off files on
floppy disk, CD, or Zip Disk. If you do not have access to e-mail and have
photos from a film-based camera, bring or mail the photos to us and a
staff member will do the necessary processing for use in the newspaper.
Please do not send pictures that have been imported to Microsoft Word
files – these pictures will not print legibly, and it takes a considerable
amount of time to extract them and try to get them to appear correctly.
If you have submitted a photo to the
Kiowa County Press and would like it back, stop by the office and you can
pick it up. We will ONLY mail the original back to you if you include a
stamped self-address envelope. Otherwise you may pick up the photo
during regular office hours at your convenience. Photographs submitted to
us for the newspaper are usually available for pick up the following week
after it appears in the Press.
