Weber’s Receive Friends of 4-H Award

At the 2003 Kiowa County Achievement Banquet on Friday, November 7, the "Friends of 4-H" was presented to a couple that have been in the community for some 70 years. He was born in the Sheridan Lake area, she in Cheyenne Wells (dates were given but I am not telling). As a youth, this gentleman was involved in the Sheridan Lake 4-H club and his sister remembers doing the jitterbug with him for talent night.

It seems some Catholic nuns in Cheyenne Wells played matchmakers and two were married in 1954. She had been raised as an only child and vowed she would have more than one child of her own. I reckon seven is a good number. If you have figured out whom I am talking about you will know that this is still a very close knit family that always support each other. You should see the family now when all of the grandchildren come to visit!!

All seven children were in 4-H during their youth and she was a Clothing leader from 1970 thru 1978 and then volunteered as a leader again this past year.

The winners of the 2003 Kiowa County 4-H "Friends of 4-H" award are Denis and Theresa Weber from Sheridan Lake. A special thank you goes to their daughter Linda for writing the narrative used at the award presentation.
