Obituary - Helen Louise Vashus, 85Former Limon resident Helen Louise Vashus, age 85 passed away Friday October 31, 2003 at Lamar, Colorado. Helen was born July 27, 1918 at Ft. Lupton, Colorado to James Ari and Sarah Amanda (Harris) Criss. Helen married Amos T. Vashus in Trinidad, on November 6,1936. To this union four children were born: Ethel, Larry, Gary, and Betty. Helen was a member of the Methodist Faith. She enjoyed cooking and canning meats, fruits, and vegetables. On numerous occasions she cooked for branding crews of more than 100 people. When Amos and Helen moved to Limon she cooked at the Limon Schools until retirement. Following retirement, she had more time to do needle work. She made blankets and pillows for all of the children and grandchildren. Helen also enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and having the family stop in for a visit. Helen is survived by two sons Larry and wife Susan Vashus of Lamar, and Gary and wife Judy Vashus of Ashland, Kansas. Two daughters Betty Kuck of Greeley and Ethel and husband Ronald Ferris of Haswell. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Amos. Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon with Rev. Frank Harvey, Officiating. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. Love Funeral Home of Limon was in charge of arrangements. |
