Superintendent’s UpdateNovember 7, 2003 The HVAC project at the high school is officially complete. This project consisted of adding air conditioning and upgrading our heating capabilities in much of the high school. This project was fully funded by a Capitol Construction Grant with no cost incurred by the District. I have recently received official notice that the Eads Elementary Plumbing Grant was approved. This grant is for $124,000 with a District match included in the grant of $20,460. The Eads Elementary School will be completely re-plumbed, all fixtures will be replaced, and the bathrooms remodeled with the funds provided from this grant. We are projecting a June 1, 2004 start date. Barnett Construction was awarded the bid on the tennis court project that was funded from the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant. This project will consist of replacing the existing tennis court surface with concrete and including a basketball area. The start date for this project will be early spring. The lighting poles for the baseball/football field have arrived. We are now in the process of making arrangements to get them set and electricity hooked up. The lighting package should also be arriving soon. This replacement of our current lighting system will be a great asset to our school and community.

Five school board members will be attending the Colorado Association of School Board (CASB) convention the December 5-6. William Woelk will receive the All-State Board Member Award at a ceremony on December 6. This award is presented to five board members in the state that have demonstrated exceptional leadership on the school board and in the community. This is a very prestigious award and we are very proud that Mr. Woelk will receive it. The Eads’ Vocational Department will be purchasing an activity bus. This bus will serve as transportation for vocational activities and a good portion of it will be reimbursed from vocational monies. With the recent legislature outlawing 15 passenger vans in our near future, now is a good time to be proactive and purchase alternate transportation. This bus will remain in the vocational department for two years and then can be utilized throughout the District. I would like to thank the community for your ongoing support of our school system. You all are very important in the process of educating students.
