Kiowa County Press Sets Deadlines for Holidays

The Kiowa County Press will be open for business as usual on Tuesday, November 11, Veteran’s Day. Therefore deadlines for that weeks paper will not be changed.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday later this month, the Press will move up deadlines for that week. All ads for the week of November 28 must be received by no later than Monday, November 24 at 4:00 p.m. Articles for that same week will be due by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25. There will be no exceptions!

These deadlines will allow us to go to print a day earlier than usual, so we can deliver the paper to the Post Office before Thanksgiving. This should mean that there will be no delays in our subscribers receiving their Kiowa County Press that week.

The Christmas and New Year holidays are just around the corner. This year, both holidays are on a Thursday, which is our Post Office deadline for mailing out the Kiowa County Press. For the Christmas edition, will be all ads due by Monday, December 22 at 4:00 p.m. and all articles due by Tuesday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m.

For the New Year’s edition, the Press will once again offer a year-end retrospective, which has been extremely popular with readers for the past two years. Deadlines for advertising in the retrospective issue will be due by 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, which includes legal/public notices.

As always, the earlier you submit your items, the easier it is to assure you it will be printed in the next possible edition.

Photo Submissions – Some Tips

Like most small weekly newspapers, the content of the Kiowa County Press is made up of a combination of staff-written material and items submitted by our readers. With the advent of the new technology age and people becoming more familiar with computer technology such as scanners and digital cameras, many recent items submitted by readers for print in the Kiowa County Press have been accompanied by ink jet photos. While the photos are great for passing around for family and friends to see, even the best photos printed by an ink jet printer are not suitable for the reproduction in a newspaper. While a photo printed by an inkjet printer may look like a photograph to the human eye, to a computer such images look like distinct or slightly overlapping red, blue and yellow dots – and are nearly impossible to convert into a legible image for newspaper printing. Therefore, a lot of the photographs submitted to us have gone unused.

If you have digital photos you would like to submit for publication with other items, please e-mail the digital files to press@kiowacountypress.com. You can also mail or drop off files on floppy disk, CD, or Zip Disk. If you do not have access to e-mail and have photos from a film-based camera, bring or mail the photos to us and a staff member will do the necessary processing for use in the newspaper. Please do not send pictures that have been imported in to Microsoft Word files – these pictures will not print legibly.

If you have submitted a photo to the Kiowa County Press and would like it back, stop by the office and you can pick it up. We will mail the original back to you if you include a stamped self-address envelope. Photographs submitted to us for the newspaper are usually available for pick up on Thursday of the week it is submitted.
