Sandy Jones hosted a soup supper and Bible study in her home Saturday evening. Marilyn Kettle and daughter, Amanda, were the guests of honor. Pastor Larry Kettle, Josh and Angela were at the Assembly of God Fellowship Hall where the men had a Bible study also. The Kettle family formerly lived in Eads when Larry was the Pastor. Sunday they sang at the worship services and were accompanied on instruments by Steve Arth and Matt Seay.

Gilbert and Kay Brown of Chivington and Pam Weirich of Eads attended the funeral of Kay’s great nephew, Terry Allworth, in La Junta. Terry’s mother is the former Phyllis Womack of Eads.

Bill and Shirley Krum’s daughter, Susan Morrison, is here for several months from Woodinville, Washington. She has been helping clean and set up one of the Eldridge ranch homes for her brother who is moving here. Shirley and Susan returned last week from Missouri where they visited Shirley’s other daughter, Cheri. They helped with Cheri’s display at a large ceramic show and operate her Ceramic Shop in Kansas City.

Erma Whited celebrated her birthday last week. She certainly gets around well and is a cheerful ninety-plus person.

Margie Wiltfang, Annie Cole, and Faye Barber attended the Sunshine District United Methodist Women’s Conference at the Pueblo United Methodist Church Saturday.

A large group of members enjoyed a soup supper and meeting at the Artist of the Plains Gallery last Tuesday evening. There are many new works of art by local and guest artists in the Gallery. Wednesday, Don and Phyllis McDaniel went to Colorado Springs to bring back several new work tables which the art group bought from a grant they recently received.

Doris knew some of the Schmitt family must have been here Monday when she found a beautiful bag of gifts and a pretty card with kind messages from her former students, Marsha, Marlene, Jody, and Blaine Schmitt. Aunt Ruth Miller said that Marsha and Pam Mousel and Joe Schmitt came down from Strasburg and Aurora.

Ida was glad to see June Wilcox when her daughter, Linda Wilcox Apple wheeled her into her room after the chapel services Sunday. Linda often comes on Sunday to see June. Pastor Gary Goettel and Nancy Walker of the United Methodist Church led the services last week.

Sarah Puls who has finished the Air Force Boot Camp at Lackland Base in San Antonio and is now in Monterey , California, in linguistics school. She had a choice to learn the Chinese, Arabic, or Korean language so Sarah is learning Korean. Her address is AIC PULS, Sarah E., 441 Chaplain Magig Ave. Box # 2667, Monterey, CA 93944.

Bobbi Marie McPherson, an Eads graduate, graduated from DeVry Institute of Technology in Kansas City, Missouri Friday October 24th with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Computer Information Systems. She was pleased to have her mother, Connie McPherson and brother, Dony of Eads come as well as her father, Don, from Lamar. Bobbi is very active in leadership roles in a Kansas City Baptist Church and has had a job through her college years in a bakery. She said having worked at the Eads Our Place Bakery and Pizza shop were assets to her.

Kiowa County Farm Bureau members attended the annual dinner meeting at the courthouse where Sharon Frazee catered the meal Monday evening. Board women Laura Negley and Cindy Williams arranged lots of door prizes. President Donald Oswald introduced the featured speaker, Rod Johnson, who explained the history and future outlook of the 2001 Farm Bill. He also told about the wonderful local Kiowa Growers Oil products, ten projects of the Economic Development Foundation, and the Indian’s Healing Run that will occur on Thanksgiving weekend here in our county.

A number of deer hunters converged around the county over the weekend. There were some interesting sights and stories to hear.

 

Ken and Robin Musgrave moved back to Eads from Craig this weekend. It will be nice to have them about town. They can spend more time with Ken’s daughter, Susan who lives in the Unity Village.

Burrel and Ruby Wissel were pleased to have their Pastor, Kim Grabor and a friend, Gayleen Williams, come from Fairplay, to visit them last Monday. Lil Penn was kind to open the art gallery for the pastor and her friend to see the artist’s displays. They were impressed to see the fine art pieces on display.

Ida and other residents and patients at Weisbrod really do enjoy the lovely bath tub which has warm bubbling whirlpool water and a lift for the person getting a bath in this newly decorated room.

Our sincere condolences to the family of Ralph (Johnny) Uhland who passed away. He was our country neighbor. Our families have been close friends through the years especially since three of their children and Doris had polio in l949 within two weeks of each other. Johnny’s services were Tuesday morning the 29th.

Our sympathy to the Koch families who lost their niece and cousin , Rita Kay Koch Carlson, to cancer. She was an educator for many years in the Longmont area. Rita was the daughter of Bernard and Clara Koch.

A number of local folks and relatives went to Lamar to the 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration of Jim and Liz Rehfeld. They lived many years north of Sheridan Lake and have given much of their talent to the betterment of 4-H programs, agriculture programs, the Plainview School, art appreciation and other events in our county.

The Book Fair is being hosted by volunteers under the direction of Media Specialist, Betsy Barnett, October 28th to November 11th at the Eads High School. This is a marvelous opportunity to buy gifts and books for your children and grandchildren or nieces and nephews.

Eads High School Drama Club and volunteers have performed several productions this week at the Crow –Luther Fine Arts Center. Instructor, Lorena Melius and the students wrote and researched the sketches with a lot of audience participation. Sarah McCoin researched Sarah Winchester’s life and mansion of the Winchester Rifle fortune for a presentation. The students showed some facts by giving a power point presentation. At the Halloween performance children can "trick or treat" across the stage. Seven of the students were fortunate to attend High School Day on the CU-Boulder campus where they learned more about make-up, lighting effects, and other acting techniques. Melius asked that we announce that they will not have a production on Saturday November 1st however, the Drama Club will present a Melodrama on Friday November 21st.

We will have news next week on local artists who won awards at the area art show in Lamar.

Parent –Teacher conferences are being held this week at the Eads Schools. It is very important to make contact with your student’s teachers, the administration, and the school facility itself.

We do so appreciate the EMT’s, the ambulance drivers, and hospital staff who are so quick to respond to happenings in our community and county like the recent wrecks, accidents, possible heart attacks and other emergencies. One just never knows when we will need the help of these dedicated men and women. Thank you!
