Sandy Jones hosted a soup supper and
Bible study in her home Saturday evening. Marilyn Kettle and daughter,
Amanda, were the guests of honor. Pastor Larry Kettle, Josh and Angela
were at the Assembly of God Fellowship Hall where the men had a Bible
study also. The Kettle family formerly lived in Eads when Larry was the
Pastor. Sunday they sang at the worship services and were accompanied on
instruments by Steve Arth and Matt Seay.
Gilbert and Kay Brown of Chivington
and Pam Weirich of Eads attended the funeral of Kay’s great nephew, Terry
Allworth, in La Junta. Terry’s mother is the former Phyllis Womack of
Eads.
Bill and Shirley Krum’s daughter,
Susan Morrison, is here for several months from Woodinville, Washington.
She has been helping clean and set up one of the Eldridge ranch homes for
her brother who is moving here. Shirley and Susan returned last week from
Missouri where they visited Shirley’s other daughter, Cheri. They helped
with Cheri’s display at a large ceramic show and operate her Ceramic Shop
in Kansas City.
Erma Whited celebrated her birthday
last week. She certainly gets around well and is a cheerful ninety-plus
person.
Margie Wiltfang, Annie Cole, and
Faye Barber attended the Sunshine District United Methodist Women’s
Conference at the Pueblo United Methodist Church Saturday.
A large group of members enjoyed a
soup supper and meeting at the Artist of the Plains Gallery last Tuesday
evening. There are many new works of art by local and guest artists in the
Gallery. Wednesday, Don and Phyllis McDaniel went to Colorado Springs to
bring back several new work tables which the art group bought from a grant
they recently received.
Doris knew some of the Schmitt
family must have been here Monday when she found a beautiful bag of gifts
and a pretty card with kind messages from her former students, Marsha,
Marlene, Jody, and Blaine Schmitt. Aunt Ruth Miller said that Marsha and
Pam Mousel and Joe Schmitt came down from Strasburg and Aurora.
Ida was glad to see June Wilcox when
her daughter, Linda Wilcox Apple wheeled her into her room after the
chapel services Sunday. Linda often comes on Sunday to see June. Pastor
Gary Goettel and Nancy Walker of the United Methodist Church led the
services last week.

Bobbi Marie McPherson, an Eads

Missouri Friday October 24th with a major in Business Administration and a
minor in Computer Information Systems. She was pleased to have her mother,
Connie McPherson and brother, Dony of Eads come as well as her father,
Don, from Lamar. Bobbi is very active in leadership roles in a Kansas City
Baptist Church and has had a job through her college years in a bakery.
She said having worked at the Eads Our Place Bakery and Pizza shop were
assets to her.
Kiowa County Farm Bureau members
attended the annual dinner meeting at the courthouse where Sharon Frazee
catered the meal Monday evening. Board women Laura Negley and Cindy
Williams arranged lots of door prizes. President Donald Oswald introduced
the featured speaker, Rod Johnson, who explained the history and future
outlook of the 2001 Farm Bill. He also told about the wonderful local
Kiowa Growers Oil products, ten projects of the Economic Development
Foundation, and the Indian’s Healing Run that will occur on Thanksgiving
weekend here in our county.
A number of deer hunters converged
around the county over the weekend. There were some interesting sights and
stories to hear.
