By Doris Lessenden
October 24, 2003
Ladies of the Progressive FCE Club
met at the Eads Senior Citizen’s Center Thursday Oct. 17th for
their monthly meeting with Margie Wiltfang as the hostess.
President Maxine Mays opened the
meeting by sharing an article on how important laughter is to a person’s
health. Laughter gives a brighter perspective on life and can foster a
positive and hopeful attitude. A person tends to have less depression and
helplessness if they can learn to laugh at what troubles them. The title
emphasized that "The Truth is Happy People Generally Don’t Get Sick." The
roll call was on "current events" which brought a time to discuss cancer
tests, the pledge allegiance controversy , the Eads Assisted Living
complex, aging friends, and other topics. Ruth Wissel reviewed the minutes
and the treasurer’s report and accepted the dues from the members. She
will be sending donations from our club to three divisions of the Peace
Gardens which we help sponsor o the USA and Canadian border.

The District 7 meeting that we
hosted was evaluated to have been very successful. The members voted to
donate an award for a Champion 4-H’er at their Achievement Banquet
November 7th. After the meeting, Ruth Wissel gave several
readings related to Halloween and Fall from the Ideals Magazine. Lesson
Leader, Zelda Peterson gave a very interesting lesson on pharmacy products
and urged us to always buy from reputable companies and talk to your
pharmacist. We agreed that we surely do appreciate our Pharmacist, Tom
Davis. Zelda also showed us lovely photos of their granddaughter, Amy
Billings’, wedding at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park on September 13th.
The family also celebrated her grandfather, Carl Peterson’s, 88th
birthday and Carl and Zelda’s 63rd wedding anniversary that weekend.
Margie served lemon cheese cake pie
and coffee on pumpkin motif plates and cups. The next meeting will be Nov.
20th at the Center.
