Amy Wren Going to Washington, D.C.
October 24, 2003
Amy Wren, a junior at La Junta High
School, will be leaving for Washington, D.C. at the end of October to
attend the National young Leaders Conference. Amy is the daughter of
Richard and Cheryl Wren and is active in volleyball, track, basketball,
Future Business Leaders of America and student council.
Though it may be true that people 18
years of age and younger make up only 25% of our population, they are 100%
of our future. This statement is certainly recognized by many of our
leaders in the nation's capital as they play a variety of roles in the
success of this program and also in the success of each individual who
participates in the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC).
NYLC offers students the opportunity
to discuss current events and issues with top policy makers in Washington,
D.C., analyze concepts, and then put them immediately to work! NYLC's
dynamic program features creative decision-making simulations that
challenge young minds to solve problems and lead their peers through
role-playing exercises in an energy-charged atmosphere far from the
traditional classroom experience. The theme of the conference this year is
"The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today."

Wren will be one of 350 attending
the conference from October 29 through November 2. Participants will
interact with members of Congress, Washington’s press corps and key
political appointees as well as participate in a number of leadership
skill-building activities and simulations.
Wren plans to attend the Air Force
Academy following graduation.
