Wayne and Alice Glover are home in
Eads after Wayne was in the hospital ten days. Wayne likes to have company
come by. Their daughter, Peggy, was here and took her niece, Chel-C
Glover, to Denver where she flew out to Japan to rejoin her crew on the
Harper’s Ferry ship. Alice’s sisters, Mary Hood, of Pueblo and Jane (John)
Steinmetz of Eugene, Oregon, and Wayne’s sister, Rosella, have been here
from Dove Creek.
We had a letter from Michael
Zimmerman who is a student at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He has a
night time job as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a Boulder nursing home
there which he enjoys. Michael said that he was glad for his training with
Kim Englehardt and the clinicians at the Eads Nursing Home He assured Ida
that Eads has a superior home for good care and excellent staff for which
she heartily agrees. We are grateful for Weisbrod being right here in our
home town.
Our sympathy to Jacob and Barbara
Diel. Jacob’s sister, Jewell, died recently. The Diel’s have been in Monte
Vista for some time to help the family in closing her home.
Muriel Andersen-Hagins formerly of
Towner was buried Saturday. She is warmly remembered by her Home
Demonstration Club friends from around Eads and the county. She has lived
for several years in Texas and is the mother of Darrel (Doris) Andersen
now of Tribune, Kansas. Phyllis Vanderwork of Eads drove over to the
service. She was accompanied by her daughter, Sylvia Shields. Sylvia and
Joe are moving their mobile home from Eads to Vilas where Joe is an
educator at the school.
Hazel Krueger, Gloria Peck, and
Zelda Peterson hosted the Prairie Piecer Quilt Guild for a luncheon
meeting this month at the Eads Senior Center. For their program, they
showed a quilt of Elden Reinert’s from his Pleasant Valley School days in
this county. They also exhibited a community friendship quilt from the
Sheridan Lake community which was given to Jim and Liz Rehfeld when they
moved to Lamar. Another lovely quilt was shown by Theresa Weber which her
daughter had made of her grandchildren’s handprints. This quilt was
quilted by the late Sara Bottorff. Their guests were Judy Beeson, Barbara
Wilson, and Theresa Weber who showed their quilted wall hangings that they
had made in a class at the Eads Center taught by Pam Addington, Hazel
Krueger, and Gloria Peck. Ladies came from long distances for this get
together. One lady even drove two and half hours from a mountain town.
Carla Gifford and Janet Anderson
treated Betsy Evans to a birthday trip of attending the Rocky Mountain
Mennonite auction at Rocky Ford Saturday which features quilts, foods,
wood works, and other crafts. Most of this money is used for missions.
The annual Book Fair will be held in
the Eads School multi-purpose room at the High School October 28th
to November 11th at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The public is
welcome to come to browse and shop. This is truly such a wonderful
experience and a great chance to buy books and gifts for youth of all
ages. Betsy Barnett, Cathy Watson and community volunteers are
instrumental in arranging this great service for our community.
Happy birthday to Karl Koch of north
Kit Carson who many people call a "walking miracle". Karl’s family is
hosting a party for him on Saturday, Oct. 25th at the Historic
Silver Spur Saloon on Main Street in Kit Carson from 2-6:00 p.m.
Pastor DeGette Goettel took Shalyn
Laird and Jennifer Negley and youth from Lamar to the "Why Wait" Seminar
Thursday evening through Saturday in Pueblo. We commend the people in our
community who work with Christian youth groups.
