The Kit Carson Trinity Lutheran
Church LWML (Lutheran Women Missionary League) hosted the Southeastern
Colorado High Plains Zone Rally September 6, 2003. Guests were greeted by
Zone President Louise (Sis) Howard of Eads and Kit Carson and LWML
President Betsy Evans. Pastor Jim Elmshauser of Flagler led the opening
devotion.
Silk sunflower corsages lined the
yellow gingham table clothes with scattered butterflies accenting the
pretty tables for the business meeting and Bible studies. Each guest
received a hand painted sunflower hospitality bag with free samples and
gifts from businesses and members in the area. These were made and filled
by Jane Borns and her daughters, Bev Middleton and Shirley Morlan of Lamar
and Wiley.
President Sis Howard and Vice
President, Marcy Ricke of Cheyenne Wells presided over the business
meeting. Mona Apple of Lamar read the minutes and gave the treasury report
which was followed with a report on the happening around the District of
Colorado, New Mexico, and parts of Texas by President Mary Martin of
Falcon, and Sue Hermann Vice President of Gospel Outreach of Colorado
Springs. The officers also gave reports on their experiences at the
International Convention in Oklahoma City that they attended last June.
Pastor Steven Thomas of Lamar who is the District Counselor presented a
Bible study on "HOPE". The national theme verse this year is "Lord of My
Heart….Our Hope." I Peter 3:15
The morning closing devotion was
given by Pastor Bill Verigutz of Burlington who reenacted a marriage
ceremony he had once performed. Young couple, Steven and Lisa Thomas, was
the "bridal couple" with whom he illustrated how self-centered individuals
can be which often continues after people are married. He illustrated how
couples need to think before they speak. The mock ceremony was both
amusing and thought provoking.
During the noon hour the attendees
found their prayer partners by matching Bible couple persons whose names
were attached to their fabric butterflies that Sis Howard had carefully
cut out. During the year, the partners will pray for each other’s needs
and thus friendships often grow. Lunch was served of croissants made with
choices of meats and cheeses, salads, and desserts.
