FFA Demonstrates Strong Pursuits at the Kiowa County Fair

This week I am very pleased to inform you of all the much deserved and anticipated Kiowa County Fair results and awards! The FFA did extremely well at fair this year, and they should have with all of the time and effort they put into their animals and projects. Each day of fair, the FFA program was involved with some activity so the week went by very fast with everyone staying busy.

I’ll start off with all of the Grand Champion Showmanship Winners. Ashley Brown was the Grand Champion Sheep Showman. Brad Rehm was Grand Champion Showman in both the swine and beef categories, as well as winning Reserve Round Robbin Showman. Lesa Cole won Grand Champion Goat Showman, and Kelly Lindholm won the Grand Champion Gardner award. Good Job to all of those members! I would also like to recognize the Reserve Grand Champion Showmanship winners. Tyler McCracken was awarded the Reserve Grand Champion Swine Showman. Vance Cole won the Reserve grand Champion Goat Showman. Well done boys! Now, I’ll move on to the Grand Champion winners. Ashley Brown won Grand Champion Breeding Sheep and Best of Show Ag Mechanics with her saw horse, Levi Kraft received Grand Champion Ag Mechanics. Brad Rehm stole the Grand Champion spot in the Beef show with his steer. Kelly Lindholm was awarded the Grand Champion Swine Rate of Gain. Joe Andrew Bush had the Grand Champion Rate of Gain Market steer. Milly Spady won the Grand Champion Breeding Beef. Vance Cole took the Grand Champion Market Swine and Grand Champion Breeding Goat awards. Jace Roberson won Grand Champion with his Market Lamb, and Heather Miller won Grand Champion with her gelding. The Reserve Grand Champion winners are as follows: Holli Watson was the Reserve Grand Champion with her Nigerian Dwarf Breeding Goat; Matea Mayo won Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat; and Jace Roberson did very well with Reserve winnings with his Breeding Sheep, Market Swine, and Market Poultry. So as you can easily see, the Eads FFA did an exceptional job at Fair with projects! I am excited to inform you, if you don’t already know that Holli Watson has taken the responsibility and honor of being our 2004 Kiowa County Fair and Rodeo Queen! Congratulations Holli!

For all of you who came to see the Fair parade, you also got to evaluate all the effort the "parade float crew" put into making our float a success. They had a lot of fun building the frame and decorating it, and their work turned out successful.

Sunday, the final day of fair, the FFA program hosted the annual Demolition Derby. This event was very exciting with the 20 entries! The first place winner was TJ Netherton (Lamar). Second Place went to Cameron Austin (Lamar), and Third Place went to a hometown competitor, Dave Crow!

Each one of the members who had an animal in the Livestock Show would like to say a special "thank you" to all of the buyers. Everyone who came to the watch the livestock show, your support is appreciated more than we can express!

This wraps up the events of the 2003 Kiowa County Fair and Rodeo. We are very pleased with our Chapter, and the efforts each member put forth into fair. Good Job!
