Obituary - Otho "Chris" Petrie Roper Jr., 72

Otho Petrie Roper Jr., youngest son of Otho Petrie Roper Sr. and Bernice Vaughn Roper was born in Elkton, Kentucky on March 28, 1931. "Chris" as he liked to be called passed away September 7, 2003 at McKee Hospice Center, Loveland at the age of 72.

Chris attended the Elkton schools and at the age of 17 moved to Rochester, New York. Chris was a Korean War veteran; he served as a sergeant in the United States Army. In 1947 Chris began working as a machinist for Eastman Kodak. He transferred to the Windsor, Colorado plant in 1970. After 36 years of working at Kodak he retired in 1983. After retirement he worked as a mechanic for Harris Marine Center, Adventures Unlimited, Country General and Loveland Outdoor Equipment.

On June 16, 1990 Chris was united in marriage to Patricia L. Barber at the First Christian Church in Loveland. Chris was a perfectionist and always had many projects to work on, he loved to remodel his homes. His favorite hobby was to restore 1940’s and 1950’s bicycles. Chris loved animals, especially his bird and dogs.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of Loveland; sons, Mark William Roper (Laurie) of Sacramento, California; Samuel Frederick Roper, Fort Collins; David Craig Roper, Lakewood; Duane Eric Roper, Denver; John Patrick Barber (Elizabeth), Greeley; Gregory David Barber, Wiley; and daughter Tricia Jo Ouellette (Ronald) of Vacaville, California; grandchildren Danny and Lisa Roper; Ryan Barber; Miranda Barber; and Brandon Ouellette; sister-in-laws Joyce and Barbara Roper and brother-in-law William Benner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial service was held September 13 at the First Christian Church, Loveland. Family services and internment was held Monday, September 15 in Eads. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Larimer County or Larimer County Humane Society. Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
