Wild Horse Roundup

Today Marty, Kirsti and I went to Eads to the fair. We was too late for the parade, but looked around and visited and then the barbecue pork, which was good. It was pretty chilly watching the rodeo which was a good one, but we survived. It is always nice to see folks that for most it is a once a year thing.

Wednesday Bud Buck of Apple Valley, California, and his son, Maynard of Las Vegas, Nevada, stopped by for a visit. They come every year for the Kiowa County fair and come by for a visit. Bud is one of the Buck families that lived in the Eads vicinity and also south of Wild Horse. There were a lot of ball players among the Bucks.

I was told my friend, Gary Terrill, who lives in Strasburg, spent a week in the hospital with the West Nile Virus. He is getting along pretty good now, but he sleeps lots of hours. He let me use so much stuff like a walker and such and I haven’t gotten it back to him. I hope he didn’t need it too bad. He used to live in Kit Carson.

Thursday was club day with Suzie Paintin serving a delicious meatloaf and scalloped potatoes with cheese. There was a large crowd with a lot of men that enjoyed it.

Ernie Hammer took his team and wagon to the parade in Eads. He has fixed up an old wagon that really looks nice.

Bill Skinner called late this afternoon and said there was a bunch of goats in the street across from our house. Marty and I went looking and there were 25 or 30 goats. We started driving them to get them to go south as we knew they were Hammers. I called them and they just got home. Marty had them started towards the bridge and the Hammers came in a car, a pickup and a four-wheeler and they took over and headed for home.

Marty and I got our furnace going and a pickup load of wood. Do we think it is getting cold? LeeAnn and girls just called to check on Kirsti. Marty has to get Kristi to Hugo by 2:30 so she can help on a float for homecoming.
