Chuck and Lola Igou of Eads were
happy and honored to have so very many family and friends come from far
and near to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with them. They
enjoyed visiting in their home and on the patio where lovely cakes made by
Fran Larrew were served. This couple has endeared themselves to many folks
by their helpfulness and kindness to all.
Brandon Adamson an Eads grad is
beginning his first teaching job at Lincoln School in Lamar. His photo
appears in the Prowers County newspaper as their Physical Education
teacher. Best wishes to Brandon.
Frances Bowen, Chivington, wrote us
such lovely letters of cheer. It helps so much when you have been
traveling the low road of pain. God bless her and Buster. They are missing
their son, Scott and Melody and daughter, Stephanie, who have recently
moved to a new job in Bridgewater, New York. Their daughter, Rachel, is
beginning her first year of college in Waxahachie, Texas, and son Nathan,
is a third year college student in Mount Berry, Georgia.
George and Dorothy Ellicott brought
two issues of the Chase County newspaper with lots of photos of their
grandchildren, Tanner and Allison Ellicott, who swept away many champions,
purples, and blue ribbons in the 4-H Swine and Horse projects. Allison won
honors in Dog Obedience classes. Tanner won Grand Champion and Allison,
the Reserve Grand over-all the swine classes with their Yorkshire cross
hogs. They also won a number of awards in horsemanship classes of barrels,
poles, and showmanship. They are the children of Justin and Ivy and live
in Wauneta, Nebraska. Five year old Tyler Ellicott of Eads won a $50.00
Saving Bond with first place in the Pedal Tractor Pull Contest. Youngsters
pull a weight in a little wagon for a timed distance. The photos were just
marvelous of their grandchildren and all the youth.
LaVerne and Ben Fischer are
expecting a visit from their children, Barb and Ted Abrams of Cory, North
Carolina, during the Fair. They hope to see some of their classmates and
friends while here. The couple has been busy attending the graduation of
their daughter, Bethany, from the University of Minnesota Law School. She
graduated Cum Laude and with numerous other honors. She and her husband
and son, Benjamin, live in a Minneapolis suburb where she will be in
private practice. The Abrams also attended the graduation of their son,
Luke Abrams, from the University of Washington with a Masters Degree with
honors in electrical engineering. He now works for Microsoft in Seattle.
Margie Wiltfang flew to Reading,
Pennsylvania to visit her daughter’s family, Dalene and Claude Mignon for
nine days. Margie said they had a splendid time touring Davy Crockett’s
homestead, Atlantic City, museums, dining at an English Tea House, and
especially meeting her new great grandson.
Johnny Holcomb drove up from Texas
Friday night to visit his mother, Aletha, who is in the Weisbrod Nursing
Home and to spend time with his other relatives.
A number of FFA members went to
Pueblo Saturday with Lance Jagers to view the exhibits and help out in the
FFA Barns.
Circle your calendar now to take the
AARP 55 Alive class on Saturday, September 27th starting at l0:00 at the
Haswell Community Building. I’ve heard that this is an educational,
non-threatening class on driver education done all in the classroom for
folks over age 55.
Eads high school played volleyball
and football at Stratton last Friday. The girls won all their matches
where under the new rules they could play up to five matches. Although our
16 boys lost, they were playing a team of 32 players who are the defending
State Champions. Radio announcer Herb Hamon says that the Eads boys did a
good job. The girls travel to Cheraw this Thursday night and this Friday
fans can see the football team here with Holly.
Kiowa Countians, Riki Berry,
Meredith Koch, and Brian James are students this fall at Colorado State
University in Fort Collins.
Bob and Renee Woods came to visit us
and showed us the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs View Book which
features their grandson, Rob Miller, in several photos and interview
quotes. The University chose only four students to highlight. They sent a
photographer to Eads to capture photos of Rob in his hometown. Rob is a
Resident Assistant, a member of the Chancellor’s Leadership Class, a tutor
and a straight A student at UCCS. His is the son of Frank and Marcie
Miller. Rob is a favorite of local youth and families in his role as Eads
Swimming Pool supervisor.
